Decluttering one thing a day part 8 - the one where we de-tetris the cupboard of doom!

WoogleCone · 14/06/2019 07:47

Welcome! This is thread 8 of the declutter one thing a day challenge!

This is just holding the discussion open until @stealthninjamum gets her computer sorted and back in action :)

Everyone is welcome here, new and old. We implore you to join us on our mission to clear the cupboards, swipe the sides and declutter all debris!
We recycle, reuse, give away, donate or just plain chuck it out to help clear our spaces.

If you're new, start with a small mission - can you tackle one small area at a time? Be it a bedside table, a bathroom cabinet or The Kitchen Drawer?
Just one thing a day is all we ask and report back here with your outs for the day, or week at a time. It's very easy to get the bug when you start small and have success!

Will we find any more big bags of change? Can we sell more big ticket items? Will the school books all get returned? Will the happy meal toys ever stop multiplying and just how many books can we say goodbye to?!

Finally some ours for me, bag of general rubbish & broken toys, load of cardboard & ds1’s old bed frame on a tip run yesterday. Back in work this week but hoping to clear some more stuff in the evenings.

SandAndSea · 19/08/2019 23:37

Not much for me today apart from ticking off 'to dos' and recycling several leaflets. But, following on from a previous post, I have arranged for a charity to come and collect a big bag of craft stuff tomorrow. It's left quite a big space in a cupboard so I'm pretty pleased about that.

@toomanyhobbies - Welcome to the thread! Smile

Mynameisnotthis · 20/08/2019 03:02

toomanyhobbies my hope is to be able to follow TOMM once decluttered too! At the moment I seem to spend all my time tidying to be able to start cleaning Hmm. I want to get to everything having a place!

bobgoblin well done on the washing. Sorting, ironing and putting away are the bane of my life!

StealthNinjaMum Grin at sock fairy!

Hello everyone else!

Dropped off the baby play mat that I sold. It was one of the lovely big soft cushion ones. DS used it from birth, to nap on before he was big enough to play. Quite emotional about seeing it go. However sold it for only £5 less then I paid! And it’s big so really helped clear space. Also gave the baby carrier wrap from the baby box to the same woman. So 2 outs there.
Binned a couple of dummies. Small out but every little helps eh?!
Cleaned the car seat ready to be put away for a couple of months until DS outgrows the infant carrier.

Mynameisnotthis · 20/08/2019 03:05

Oh! Also decluttered what was left from a giant box of soap powder from baby’s room. (I buy things in bulk but struggle with storage). Decanted into the box under the sink and out to the recycling.

My washing system seems to be my bed. I sleep on one side and then seem to leave piles all along the empty side. Sometimes they stay there for days.

SandAndSea · 20/08/2019 21:26

Well, the charity let me down at the last minute so not much to report today. I have had another bash at organising my savings though so I'm pleased with that. I've also sanded a bit of the bathroom, ready to paint tomorrow.

SandAndSea · 21/08/2019 14:30

Just having a coffee before launching into a bit more decorating. I don't know why I'm finding it so difficult to get down to, but I am and a lot of the house is in a mess as a consequence.

In an attempt to feel a bit better, (and to put it off even longer) I've folded and put away laundry and cleared out my purse and shredded all the receipts.

Declutterimg freezer now - v odd meal tonightSmile

Mynameisnotthis · 21/08/2019 20:00

Thanks IWillWearTheGreenWillow
Grin that’s amusing re the online/paper!

Didn’t get much decluttered yday except half the ironing pile 😐

One out today of a wee pink dolls pram, yet another thing donated to DD nursery!

DH folded the travel cot and removed it from the living room. A case of one out one in though as we have a proper play pen now but at least this one folds out the way more easily so we can reclaim the space of an evening. Must to better tomorrow!

I have no washing system stealth or if I do then it must be broken. Honestly I spend my life sorting dirty washing, washing it, hanging it up, taking it down......waiting a few days then sorting it out Blush

SandAndSea · 21/08/2019 20:31

Thanks, Willow! I really appreciate all the encouragement and support on this thread. (I finished the first coat on the bathroom ceiling and DP didn't even notice I'd done anything!)

InOmniaParatus13 · 21/08/2019 20:48

Hi all!
Just caught up. I forgot my password Blush so haven’t been able to post. Baby brain!
My scan went very well thank you @RaspberryBlonde, people keep saying how huge the baby is, even the sonographer mentioned it!

I’ve had a very productive week, I’ve completely decluttered the living room, sorted through all the storage boxes and got my friend to do a tip run as my black bin is full! I am also about half way through the never ending bags of washing that I had dumped in the attic, I forgot about so many of these clothes, it’s like having all new stuff again Grin

Tomorrow’s plan is to tackle my bedroom as it’s got most of my dad’s furniture in and loads of clothes that need sorting and putting away! I have my gender scan on Saturday, so lots of decluttering will be happening to pass the time Grin I have also cleared the spare room completely, which I will turn into the nursery at a later date Smile

toomanyhobbies · 21/08/2019 22:12

Thanks for the welcome. I’m still trying to declutter and sort out our room. So far Monday I did the wardrobes have a sack of clothes to donate/bin/sell. We still had some unpacking to from the holidays so have done some more of that and today I sorted my bedside cabinet. Still have a long way to go. At the moment the only tidy place is the landing Blush

Tomorrow’s plans are to get the bedding washed. Clear the hall and stairs and sort the hamster bits.

Went to ikea today and got some of their recycling boxes for outside shoes. Turns out we only needed 1. The other will be used from outside toy stratage. In the meantime I think I will use them to hide the bits going to charity and preschool from ds.

sandandsea I hate painting it usually takes a month to do a room so well done on your ceiling.

I haven't done much, just shredded a few papers.

SandAndSea · 21/08/2019 22:42

Thanks, Stealth! I quite enjoyed it once I got going. I don't know why I hate the thought of doing it so much. It's always good once it's done, that's for sure.

I've also got rid of some old, used, file dividers.

InOmniaParatus13 · 22/08/2019 06:25

@IWillWearTheGreenWillow I love the pre sorted washing basket ideas, absolute genius! I’m going to have to do that myself!

Good luck indeed IWill my eldest has just left to walk down to school. This week I’ve prepared a few more eBay listings- presuming it’s going to be a £1 selling fee weekend. Picked through some more documents/photos in the box from relatives. Tax coding notice from 1990 the most ancient find so far.

toomanyhobbies · 22/08/2019 09:31

Good will with the results @IWillWearTheGreenWillow and @gassylady and anyone else waiting for results today

bobgoblin · 22/08/2019 09:55

Well done Sand on the decorating - I'm always putting off jobs like that! Good luck to all the DCs getting results today.

I've had a busy couple of days. We had our brown bin emptied on Tuesday so I started filling it again by weeding the border on the front and getting some more weeds out of the back garden.

Yesterday DH wanted to move around some things in the garden so out of the little shed went a broken play tent, a punctured football and a couple of small broken garden toys. I managed to sneak some toys out of DDs toy chest in her bedroom when no one was looking. The good ones went into a charity bag which was collected this morning. The broken and tatty bits are hidden in a bin bag and I'll sneak them into the bin later. I've got a small box with some hidden in there. I think these might be missed so I'm going to give it a few weeks and if no one asks these will go as well. Two more cardboard boxes and some random packaging out. I deep cleaned the kitchen yesterday afternoon so there's one part of the house that looks nice at least.

I need to do some financial admin this morning so I'm going to try and deal with the filing and shredding pile at the same time. There's also a basket of clean washing in the corner of the lounge that I need to put away as well.

SandAndSea · 22/08/2019 10:01

Following on from Willow's laundry idea. Apparently, kallax cubes or the equivalent are the perfect size for a load.

That's nice to read, Willow. Congrats to DS! Star

Today's outs:

Emails and texts.
A pair of black jeans - I've been storing them for years in my 'I will fit into them again' place. But, I've realised I don't like them.
The big bag of craft stuff - hopefully. (The charity should be coming later.)
