I read some old thread on another site that said to use a mixture of white vinegar, bicarbonate of soda and water instead of the softener. Does anyone use this, if so what are the ratios?

I think it's just white vinegar you use

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 28/05/2019 15:50

I don't use anything at all.
I try to use the minimum of powder so there isn't a residue.
My clothes feel soft.
If I need a scent I put a drop of essential oil in the wash.

Don't use anything, there's no need for it at all.

Just white vinegar, you don’t want to mix vinegar and bicarb in your machine!!

orangeshoebox · 28/05/2019 16:00

depends on what you are after.
if it's scent a few drops of essential oils will do that.
for softness just white vinegar.

Thanks all. I think the OP on the thread said it was pre-mixed in an old 2ltr bottle before putting it in the machine. Thanks for your advice. EnvyThanks

Nah you just squirt the white vinegar in it's amazing for towels

dementedpixie · 28/05/2019 16:55

If you mix vinegar and bicarb then they get neutralised by each other as one is acid and the other an alkali.

dementedpixie · 28/05/2019 16:57

If you add one to the other you will get a volcano effect which I'm sure you don't want in your washing machine drawer!

AngryWolf · 28/05/2019 17:45

White vinegar is then!! In the softener compartment of the drawer, I assume? Same amount as softener I would normally use?
