Vi-spring mattress fantasies

everythingisginandroses · 24/05/2019 22:41

To go with my duvet-hunting, I am having (rather more ambitious) fantasies of getting a Vi-Spring mattress, probably an entry-level one from John Lewis. Would you recommend, and have you ever found one in a sale, or does that not really happen?

TIA.

We splashed out on a Vi-Spring mattress many years ago and have been del with it. The fact that it's on an ancient secondhand divan base retrieved from DD's rental house (rescued on its way to a skip) has only added to the feeling of happy chuffed-ness with ourselves.

Oops, posted too soon, I was just trying to say we are delighted with it. One of our very few indulgences but it brings us pleasure.

Sorry I should have read your post properly. Yes they do sometimes come up in a sale I think.

We were lucky enough to get an ex display one from John Lewis with a headboard. We only saw it as we took the lift and came out in the discount area instead of using the stairs like we normally would.

It’s king size but one half is firm tension and one is medium which is great. I absolutely love it. I am ruined now. Our next one will be the super king zip link as we will be old by then as this one still looks new a couple of years on.

We’ve had ours for about 11 or 12 years. I’ve got a woollen mattress protector over it and a mattress topper above that. It’s heavenly and like brand new.

We got super king sized as the independent shop had an ex display bed frame. They really wanted it gone so it was a steal and they still sent out a polisher after it was delivered. We had gone in to price up the king size. They’d got a sale going, but did us a fabulous deal on the base and mattress because we were buying the wooden bed too, it’s a sleigh style.

The only issue is the laundry. Some of the quilt covers seem to weigh a ton when wet.

We've got the cheapest vi spring mattress from John Lewis, 10 years old now and I still love it!
I get back ache when we're on holiday from inferior mattresses!

I'm going against the grain here to say our ViSpring mattress from JL was one of the biggest purchasing mistakes we ever made. We had firm on one side (for DH) and medium on the other (for me) which is what they recommended for our weights. It felt like a cloud in the shop but after seven hours we both ached from the pretty much zero support it offered. Lying on it you could see how much our spines were bending but their customer service was awful, couldn't have been less interested. Sold it after a month for a mattress that cost £100 and was 100x more comfortable!

My old 10 yr one is quite good, but not THAT exciting. I now use a JL mattress topper on it.
