Hello, apologies if this is a particularly silly question...I have inherited an aliminium bathroom shelf which, in parts, has sme rust build-up; is there any way to get this off? Does anyone know of any magic cleanin solution to remove it? TIA

Brillo pads and elbow grease?

lol Scotergrrrl-I will definitely try. Wasn't sure if I'd mark it with a scourer but I'll try a small patch.

Aluminium is a non-ferrous alloy that can't rust. The shelf is either steel ... or the fixtures are made of steel. Is this where the rust is?

Aluminium doesn't rust, does it?

x-post Desi. Must learn to type faster.

Great minds, Lyra!

rabbit, you have to be quite careful with rust. If it's an eyesore, I would suggest a trip to Halfords for a rust solution. Buy the smallest bottle you can ... you won't be needing much of it!

Thanks everyone. I now have no idea what the shelf is made of...but I'll try all the suggestions (and then sheepishly go and buy a new one which is probably what I should have done in the first place )
