How to remove mildew spots from towels/flannels?

Anyone have any ideas? Would prefer to avoid using bleach if poss (am trying to be more eco friendly and dont have any in the house now).

Hi Panna,

eco friendly bleach replacements which might work are borax and bicarb. Both can be bought at the chemist, they're white powder which you add boiling water to and soak your flannels.

I haven't tried removing mildew with it, but it's worth a try.

Good luck anyway, I'm sure someone else will come on who knows more.

Thanks ccat, I have some borax so will try that added to boiling water.
I didnt even know you could mix borax with boiling water, does it make it more effective?

Hi P, I don't know, I've always used boiling water with it on the assumption that it'll clean better, but no reason really.

But sometimes I use vinegar with it and that's cold of course.

I'm trying to be chemical free at home but have to confess it's harder work sometimes. But it's been so long that now I find the smell of Flash etc really artificial and unpleasant
