Flies!

Hi guys, I'm looking for advice for a fly problem I've got in the house atm that's driving me mad! We have a couple of flies in each room just buzzing around, with the majority being upstairs - I last counted 7 in the bathroom! I've bought some stickers that I plan to put up on the windows, but does anyone have any idea why they could be in the house? The kitchen is cleaned daily, we only have a small bin in there so empty it at least once a day, and there's no food or dirt anywhere! The only thing I can think of is that we took the shower unit out on Saturday, and the floorboards and pipes were left uncovered until Monday when we put a new bath in. They've been appearing since then, so that could be a cause but not sure how? I've shut all the windows (normally have a couple open this time of year); is this better than having them open to not give them an escape? I want to know why they're here so I'm not continually getting rid of them all summer if there's something in the house!

Any ideas on causes/how to get rid without using poison/sprays etc. would be greatly appreciated!

Are they houseflies or bluebottles ?
Have you checked where you took out the shower unit that there isn't anything there ( mouse corpse or random food that has been left)?

I've had a few coming into the kitchen when the back door or window has been open and they fly round the lights (really annoying) . I try to get them to the window then quickly open and through them out .

Otherwise its a quick blast of hairspray for speed .
I tried fly papers last year but caught no more than 2 .

At the moment we have flying ants , I have no clue where they're coming from, but I think they're a short life cycle .

Sound like cluster flies they tend to live in the loft and they have been disturbed. They are dopier and slower than normal flies . Google cluster flies and see if that description fits. We had them for a few weeks in April not sure where they came from but I did swat them to get the population down ...

I've found that they've left once the window is open all day, but there's still a couple! Cluster flies seems to fit the description best from a quick google. I'm worried about looking in the attic and finding a load of maggots from something that's up there! The numbers are dwindling so hopefully over the next couple of days they'll disappear...
