Ledge/Shelf in bath - standing water

We have a shower over bath configuration in the bathroom - running upwards there is the bath, then a couple of tiles height of wall, then a couple of tiles length "shelf", and then straight up wall. (Think I'm probably making a bit of a mountain out of a molehill explaining that...)

Issue is standing water collects on the "shelf" and goes cold and is generally gross, and that orangey gross tinge I'm pretty sure is a form of mould builds up.

I know the real solution to this is clean it after every use, but challenging with a busy household and the "shelf" being used to store all of the shampoo bottles etc.

Any ideas beyond "be a bit less gross"?

If its Orange/red/pink its bacteria, not mould. Regular cleaning is only option

This is exactly why I told dh we wouldn't be having a niche when we had our bathroom/shower done.

Afraid regular cleaning is the only option. Bathroom cleaner with bleach.

Not so much as regular cleaning needed, just drying after every use.

Before I get out of the shower I shower the walls. Then I just wipe down the walls (which would a shelf if I had one) with a towel or absorbent cloth. This will cut down on formation of mould and bacteria too.
