Can I ask how you clean your blinds?

Sorry not sure of the correct name but they are the horizontal slat types.

Surely the only way can't be going over each one with a cloth? It's a huge bay window.

Any tips please?

I angle them so I can’t see the dust.

I have a brush adaptor for my hoover and just use that. When they need a proper clean I use a damp cloth. I close the blind and wipe horizontally, then close them the other way if that makes sense? They’re only small windows though. I find hoovering them means they don’t need a proper clean very often at all.

I've got a huge front window and I don't clean mine nearly enough Blush
Takes ages to do so I have to work myself up to it. What I have found helpful is to use old socks that I've sprayed with method then put on my hands to wipe each slat with. It's actually an easier job if you manage to do it more often as you don't get a dust buildup that means you have to go over them again speaking from bitter experience

Holidayshopping · 05/05/2019 17:58

Which Method product do you use, @chimichangaz?

OldAndWornOut · 05/05/2019 18:02

I've been thinking about how to clean my kitchen blind for years, and last week I found the perfect answer.

I climbed on a chair, unhooked the blind, then placed it in the rubbish bin.

MountainEagle · 05/05/2019 18:06

Take down blinds. Put in bin. Tell DH the 70s called and they wanted their blinds back.

chimichangaz · 05/05/2019 20:44

@Holidayshopping I use the multi surface lavender one.

I've got a huge bay window with Venetian blinds and to dust them I angle them downwards slightly and then run a pledge fluffy duster over them.

For one of my kitchen blinds (installed by precious owner) I used the same tip as pp and chucked it in the bin. Still have one blind left in the kitchen which I'm in 2 minds about getting rid of. Takes an entire afternoon just to scrub the grease off the damn thing.

ImTheRealHFella · 05/05/2019 20:56

You can take them down and put them in the bath but.....no.

I use hot soapy water if they're really filthy but most of the time the brush attachment on the vac works fine.

justthecat · 05/05/2019 21:00

Very badly and I knew when I ordered them I’d regret buying black.. least now on the side of grey 🤨

happymummy12345 · 05/05/2019 21:07

I dust mine once a week with a dry cloth. And wet clean them once a month.
I hate them. We live in a rented house than has shutters in the front bay window in the living room. So we got blinds for all the other windows so they matched as close as possible to the shutters.
Give me nets and curtains any day

Nanalisa60 · 06/05/2019 08:57

Well I’m just about to start on them today!! The most hated job in my house !! Will start by hoovering then with the brush attachment then I will use husbands old white sport sock 🧦 over my hand that been socked in a bowl with fabric conditioner then wring out the sock. The fabric conditioner is it stop the dust being attached to the blinds!! I have twelve to do in my house just hate cleaning them. I do keep them on them tilted but still need a good clean twice a year!!

Can I ask how you clean your blinds?

It is better to do them often otherwise it is much harder if you allow a build up.

I use a feather duster, close the blinds and go top to bottom, then reverse them, again top to bottom, and then open them and go horizontal.

If you do this 2-3 times a week it saves doing each individual slat. It sounds like a lot but it takes under 1 minute to do 1 blind. My window is 1.8m wide. I have a few of them in the house.

Moneyisnteverything · 09/05/2019 18:28

I take them down, take them outside, hang them on hooks I've fitted specially in the side of the shed then get the pressure washer on them.

The one that I bought in 1986 doesnt really look new any more but the newer ones look great.

Life is too short to spend ages with a sock.
