Shark or Gtech Cordless - help me decide?

I've had 4 handheld Dysons in my current house whihc have been fantastic - while they have worked. Current one a V8 has just started playing up, conveniently 6m outside of the warranty. I think I have finally had enough of Dyson handhelds. They are bloody fantastic - for about 2 years. then they are shit. They are too expensive for me to keep buyinh new ones.

So what can I try instead? I need good battery life for a 3 storey house. All laminate apart from stairs and one large rug so carpet performance isn't too important. We have a hair-shedding cat but again not too important on laminate. I can't be doing with bags or cords.

What should I try - Gtech? Shark?

Shark!

I have a cordless one (and 2 dogs!). Previously had a Miele and I couldn't believe the amount of dirt and hair it got out of my carpets when I first used it. It's brilliant. Also good on hard floors

Shark. It has headlights. Grin

I have a Shark (corded but really long cord)

It has a small cannister but a doddle to empty . Very long metal tube which gets blocked easily . Also the beater roller gets clogged up with DD hair Hmm which stops it turning.
Its a bit top heavy and because the head clips on/off it will detatch itself at will.

My DParents have a GTech. Cordless, lightweight. I can use it on the stairs, just place and drag it along.
Easy to empty.

It is quicker and more powerful than the Shark but I have less carpet than they do , so it does the job.

Definitely Shark!

I originally bought the G-Tech Pro but the battery was useless and kept cutting out. 😡. In fairness, GTech were very good and sent me 3 new batteries over the course of 5 weeks but to no avail. They then wanted to replace the body but by this time I had lost confidence in the vacuum and returned for a refund instead.

The experience put me off cordless but several months later I noticed Shark were now doing a cordless, duo clean liftaway. The 5 year guarantee along with a 2 year battery guarantee swung it for me and I have never regretted my decision. Have had it for 7 months now and it is great! Genuine 50 minute run time too!

Do not get the g tech my mil had the latest one and we did all her housework, it wasn't very good, it did pick up but not a patch on my miele at home.

IMO the Dysons are all overpriced hype.. i've had 2 and they really don't last very long (3 bed bungalow/2 short haired cats) - upgraded to a Shark around 3 months ago and it beats the 2 Dysons hands down.

calpop · 19/04/2019 08:46

I agree, they just dont last Which Shark?

Shark duo pet clean!

Cord is that long I can do all upstairs plugged in downstairs!

darkhorse2016 · 25/04/2019 13:36

Shark duo - I’ve just bought one and it’s amazing. And it’s got headlights!

flumpybear · 25/04/2019 13:40

Love my Shark - couldn't comment on the Gtech as not used it

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 25/04/2019 13:50

Shark Shark Shark Shark Shark.

We have the pet one and its very very good.

DH broke the frame at the bottom of our Dyson and it wouldn't push back and forth, but until then had been working fine. At least we thought.

I am embarassed to tell you what the Shark got out of the previously dysoned carpet!

Shootingstar1115 · 25/04/2019 19:09

Oh god, I’ve read this and now I’m worried about my cordless Dyson lasting 😬 I was stuck between a cordless Shark and the Dyson and went for the Dyson.

But I do also have a corded Shark which is fab. They are a good cleaner. 😊 I also have a little gtech handheld thing for the car but I don’t really rate it!

Floralnomad · 25/04/2019 19:15

I have the shark duo with pet , it’s the middle one on the link above and it is indeed excellent . However I have a Bosch Athlet ( top of the range model) for upstairs and that is also excellent . Dsis has a g tech and it’s efficient but extremely noisy in comparison to the others . I have had a couple of Dysons in the past , and still have a dyson handheld in the kitchen but I don’t think they are as good as the Shark / Bosch . Just out of interest have you had all the filters out of your Dyson and given them a really good scrub as that cured an issue with ours .

Gumbo · 25/04/2019 19:26

I've had both... Shark wins hands down, no contest...

calpop · 25/04/2019 20:46

Hiya I clean the Dysons to within an inch of their lives, filters, drum etc. Don't get me wrong, they are awesome. Mine just seem to conk out after 2.5 ish years..I think its the way they're designed. I just think they're too expensive to replace every 3 years.

Thanks all.for your recs, going to go with a shark, for a change if nothing else!
