Organising paperwork

I’ve got a mishmash of overstuffed ring binders, plastic drawers that are too small for most paperwork, box files and random piles and boxes of paperwork. I want one system that works.
Does anyone use hanging files in a box? Or something similar?
How long do you keep bank statements, electricity bills, pay slips etc? Mine are all electronic now but I still have a few years worth of paper ones.
Does anyone use one of those confidential ink roller things rather than shredding? We can’t put shredded paper in the recycling so I’d like to find an alternative.
Thanks.

I need this info too.
I hate paperwork. The shredder always breaks. My house is too tiny to keep it all. I lack the time to invent new systems to manage it.

I don't receive or keep any bank statements, utility bills, pay slips. Everything is online old ring binders etc discarded years ago. Why would you need a bank statement/electricity bill from X years ago?

Only things I keep are council tax bill, TV license, a few bits and pieces for ISA's, last annual mortgage statement, warranties, some user manuals etc. in a really useful company box file with 10 suspension files.

I have some information on OneDrive (account numbers, scanned receipts etc) if I need it.

You’re right Brokenwing but the thought of having to spend ages shredding is part of the reason I’ve still got everything. Is there an easier way? The ink rollers get mixed reviews.

I cut out the bits with personal information on and just stick the rest in the recycling bin.
The personal data bits I shove in the compost bin.

I had a load of stuff from when DM died so I bought a dustbin like thing with a hole in the top called an incinerator bin from Amazon and had a small fire in it. We got rid of a big load of paperwork in that.
