I've disconnected and reconnected every removable part and it's still making a hollow noise and hardly sucking at all.

I really dont want to call the engineer if I can help it - any ideas??

It's the 8 cylinder model

do you need to empty the cylinder or clean the filter at all?

I've emptied the filter and the inner shroud (how much dust and dirt??), and I only recently cleaned the filter. It's more a sound that a tube or something is half blocked it's like a hollow deep whitle

which make is it, does it have those rubber band thingys which occasionally snap and need replacing attached to the dust bar???

LowFatMilkshake · 13/07/2007 20:17

It has got a drive belt, but that's fine, also it would'nt affect suction of an attachment so not that

Ours started doing that, I rung up the helpline and they talked me through what to do and it worked fine again. Turned out too much of my hair was stuck in the rollers.

Dysons are guaranteed for life apparently, or so my mum says, and the helpline will speak to anyone who owns one, no matter how old it is. Give them a ring and I bet you they will get the problem sorted out, its the only time I have been truly bowled over by excellent customer service.

Thanks RM will ring the helpline tomorrow.

thanks everyne else for your suggestions too.

It might be worth having a look on the net first - we found a troubleshooting thing that asked questions and led us to the problem we had with our dyson.
