What factors should I take into account when buying a steam iron?

I would recommend a steam generator iron if your budget can stretch to it.

My SIL & MIL recommended them to me for years and I thought my normal iron was fine, until it gave up and we got the steam generator - I wouldn't be without it!

You don't have any temperature to adjust, just fill it with water and iron. You can go from ironing chinos full of creases to a silk dress! It also doesn't take as long as it used to get through a pile of ironing!
