Best Dishwasher Detergent

I’ve used Finish Powder for YEARS. Always had good results, everything came out clean no issues. Then, had trouble getting it for a while but came back into stock JUST before I ran out completely.

First load with new bottle.... tea stains in cups and white chalky residue over everything. Checked salt and rinse aid, checked filters, ran machine again.....same problem. Then noticed “New Formula” on bottle! Checked reviews and loads of people are having the same problem!

So I need recommendations. I’d rather not use tablets due to the plastics involved. When I first had a dishwasher an engineered advised against gels as they gunk up pipes.

What do my fellow Mumsnetters use and swear by?

Finish tabs aren’t wrapped in plastic individually- they have a dissolvable wrapper so you just bung one in. Same amount as plastic as a bag of salt!

Tesco own make £3, hottest wash . Make sure you use rinse aid and top up your salt.

I mostly use the finish powder and haven't had any problems with it-yet.
Sainsbury's own powder is fine too and comes in a cardboard box, I decant it into a finish bottle.

Can the Finish ones go into the dishwasher without unwrapping?
Why don't I know this?

We have had a free trial of SMOL dishwasher tabs delivered. 100% recyclable packaging and no unwrapping individual tabs. They're the best dishwasher tabs we've ever tried. Can't say I'm as happy with the clothes tabs but the dishwasher ones are great.

I quite like Smol. It's mail-order only though. On the plus side, it's in a subscription so you don't have to remember to keep ordering.

Second Tesco tablets Everything sparkling cheap as chips!

I don't want a dissolvable wrapper either (they still leave some micro plastics - they contain polyvinyl).

I'll have a look at the Smol ones and then Tesco (I'll have to start going to Tesco specifically for dishwasher powder!).
