I have on a gentle cycle

They'll shrink. Or the curtain material itself will shrink but the lining won't.

What do you need to do with the curtains? Remove stains or just freshen them up? There might be other ways of achieving this.

Can you hand wash them cold? I've had some success with this

Newadventure · 27/03/2019 13:15

There's two (out of six) that have food stains on them as they were near the dinning table and dd has splashed food on them. I have tried to wipe them clean but it hasn't come off.. tbf I havnt exactly given it a very good try and was just looking for the easy option.
They're beige colour, black-out curtains so the stains really show up (well to me) but with the black-out lining I'm worried about that shrinking.

What is the fabric? Are they lined? Cheap or expensive?

Do you have a tumble dryer to try home-kit dry cleaning in?

Failing that, if I was desperate, I might try the wool cycle with Woolite(add a couple of colour catchers too).

Oh sorry you said beige with B/O lining.

Go gingerly.

Depends on the type of curtain material but you could try sponging the spots with lemon juice diluted with water (roughly 1 part lemon juice to 5 parts water) but I'd test on an inconspicuous patch first, such as the inside hem.

I work on the basis that if it's that dirty it needs a wash then if I don't wash it I'll have to throw it. So I lose nothing by trying to wash it!
I had net curtains with the hooks sewn in. I gathered the top and put it into a pillow case, then tied it with cooking twine (i.e. non-coloured!) and washed them on a 30 hand wash cycle.
