Stains underneath toilet seat

FriedFoodFreud · 24/03/2019 07:15

No idea what is staining the underneath front of the toilet seat. Pee splashing back up maybe, from DD sitting near the front.

Anyway, it looks awful but bathroom cleaners aren’t doing anything. What can I try?

@Wasabiaddiction 😂 I was thinking the same about getting excited about toilet cleaning products. Sometimes it's the little joys in life

RuggyPeg · 26/03/2019 08:40

Exactly Forum - it's the small things! You can go and be a world renowned brain surgeon or global CEO by day AND get your kicks cleaning under the loo seat at the weekend!

Cannyhandleit · 26/03/2019 08:41

I got it off with ‘pink stuff’ and a fair bit of scrubbing

MrsJayy · 26/03/2019 08:44

I use the astonish bathroom spray and a pan sponge/scourer brings the seat up lovely. I don't know what the staining is either.

FriedFoodFreud · 26/03/2019 17:17

Very glad this thread is proving so appealing for so many people. Grin

For those of you on the edge of your (toilet) seats, this has now turned into a live stain removal thread! The mould spray is on (HG brand from B&Q or Screwfix I think) and I shall report back.

Lots of bleach Bleach bleach bleach till your throat is sore and u can taste it 😂 not that I am a bleachaholic or anything 🤪

FriedFoodFreud · 26/03/2019 19:09

Well, it’s about 80% gone with the HG mould remover. Exciting! If I spot Astonish spray in a pound shop I shall give a go for
Round 2.

Yay OP 😂.

Give Astonish a go, it's really amazing. I even use it on the shower screen.

And no I don't work for them, although you'd think I was on comission 😂

RuggyPeg · 27/03/2019 00:12

I tried a magic eraser today and it worked a treat. Didn't remove every last hint of yellow but at least 90% better than before.

icelollycraving · 27/03/2019 13:09

Magic sponge and cif cream cleanser. Works brilliantly. I get mine at the pound shop.

Palaver1 · 28/03/2019 06:37

Astonish products really work and there mostly a pound each first bought there products 15 years ago I think on QVC.
The best one was the fryer cleaner a tablet you drop into boiling water.to clean the grease best product ever .

JinglingHellsBells · 28/03/2019 13:49

I've never ever had this, BUT it's a sign for me that (in hotels, public loos and so on) it's not been properly cleaned regularly. If you wipe the underside of the seat every time you clean the loo, you don't get this build up.

It's partly where wee dribbles off the seat and gets under the rim of the seat and also splashes from when the loo is flushed.

Ouch44 · 28/03/2019 13:56

Our seat never used to get this! I clean it more now than I used to as well. It's a flippin mystery! Have 2 males and 2 females here. Another recent convert to the Astonish mould and mildew spray. I try to stick the loo roll to the stained part with it soaked in spray and it's finally getting better. Have to be careful as it has bleach in and it makes the chrome parts rust

Calamapo · 28/03/2019 13:58

Magic eraser works like a charm.

Chottie · 28/03/2019 17:59

Another vote for magic eraser :)

Rumboogie · 28/03/2019 18:08

I use a scouring pad, gently. I find it is the only thing that works

Brexshitfuuuuuuuck · 28/03/2019 18:11

Magic eraser did nothing for me, and the marks aren't even that bad.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 28/03/2019 18:19

I’m worried magic eraser will make things worse in the future because it’s abrasive? Or is it not? Especially on shower screen glass.

I have one I’ve never used Because of this.

Those who use it, what do you think?

Harebel · 28/03/2019 18:48

Ew... why are you doing it and not the clatty bastards who caused it to clean the stains off? Confused

FriedFoodFreud · 28/03/2019 18:51

I’m not sure that I’m not one of the clatty bastards, the source of the stain is a mystery.

So thanks to this thread, I headed out and got the astonish mould remover and aso got their cream cleanser with bleach. We have 2 toilets with these stains and I have tried everything in the past. Tried a different one on each and they are both amazing!! I keep lifting the lids up they look like new. The spray one I just sprayed and left for 10 mins, it had gone complety, the cream I popped on a cloth and it just rubbed straight off. So happy.

forumdonkey · 30/03/2019 13:47

@nickdrakeslovechild it's brilliant isn't it?! No scrubbing, just spray and it disappears.

I also use it on my shower screen

Justonemorepancake · 30/03/2019 13:48

Don't use bleach! I have a white painted wood loo seat and used bleach to clean it - it melted some of the paint a bit so it now looks pee stained - it's actually the wood showing through the thinner paint a bit. Ruined it.

JustGettingStarted · 30/03/2019 13:52

Our toilet seat looks horrendous. I'm going to get a new one this week. you can get a new toilet seat. I would rather replace it yearly than try to scrub it clean for hours and still not get it looking clean. If you wipe it with bleach daily it should look OK for a while.

JustGettingStarted · 30/03/2019 13:53

I don't know what happened above - I typed "you can get a new toilet seat from Argos for £10."
