If you have a robot vacuum, where does it live?

I'm looking at getting a robotic vacuum but my question is, where do you site the charging station?
I was thinking of putting it out-of-site under a sofa / our bed, but I'm thinking that would be a PITA to get to for emptying it.
A review site suggested if you have a mix or hard floor and carpet to start it off in a room without carpet as by the time it's finished the carpeted room, the dust bag is full.
What are your experiences?

Also, how easy are they to empty, and if, for example, it sucked up a spider, will I have to touch the horrible spider remains? (Do they suck up spiders?)

Ours lives under a cabinet in the hall as that's where there is space. I like it out of visible sight but always charging. We move it to the room we want it to clean and I find it's better doing one room at a time.

The emptying but is just a drawer that pulls out from one side. No need to poke spider legs!

Ours is an old roomba though so things may have changed
