Floor cleaning

I have hard floors in my rented flat. Unsure what they are made of.
What's the best way to clean them. I've always had carpets and struggling to keep my floors properly clean. I vacuum etc but I notice my socks sometimes look grubby. I've got a vax steam cleaner but it doesn't seem to do much. Last time I got on my hands and knees and scrubbed it all. There must be an easier way?

B&Q have good cleaning products for deep cleaning.

I sweep over, Hoover, steam mop with a Milton tablet in the water once a week, if there are dried on bits from the kids yoghurt and stuff it’s a hands and knees job... about twenty minutes after I do this it looks like I never bothered as someone’s spilt something... but at least I know it’s clean!

I steam clean but I recently got a spray mop and really like it
However, I can clean the floors throughly and still get the “white sock” problem. I find slippers solve this!

I sweep/mini hoover daily, and once (or twice a week if it's truly horrible) I mop with hot water and soap. It stays clean for about 15 seconds before it starts to get dirty again.

I made my peace with housework by thinking of it as an entropic process, never a task that can be ticked off. Now I put a podcast on while I clean and try and make the process more enjoyable, rather than focusing on the outcome. Also I keep up with TOMM so it's never more than 24 hours since I've swept and never more than 7 days since I cleaned any particular room.

Thanks!! Might try a spray mop then.
I just feel I'm doing something wrong as they aren't ever sparkly clean regardless of how long I've spent on them.

I do see it as a chore @Xiaoxiong but want to be more houseproud (I'm not at the miment) what is TOMM?

TOMM = The Organised Mum Method.

I've recently bought a Karcher Hard Floor Cleaner. I got mine second hand. Not cheap but the results are excellent.
