I'm Marie Kondoing my clothes!

I have gathered all my clothes except for underwear and coats. I'm not quite sure how I'm going to do it, I'm thinking of making the following categories:

Short-sleeved T shirts
Long-sleeved T shirts
Other tops
Jeans
Trousers
Maternity trousers
Vests
Dresses
Skirts
Sportswear.

Not actually sure I know what I'm doing, but I'll post back later tonight!

Ah good luck! I did this last summer and a few weeks ago, it's a really good technique tbh and I found a tonne of stuff to take to the clothes banks that I don't ever wear!

Jackshouse · 10/03/2019 19:45

Good luck. I found it so liberating.

I love decluttering so I'm hoping I will indeed find this liberating. Not sure what to do with clothes that I love but that don't fit me? Have another stone to lose to get to pre-pregnancy weight, and then another 1.5 stone to get to what was my adult normal.

Don't hold on to clothes that don't fit. By the time they do fit they're rarely 'right' again imho.

Just let them go, forget about them and and look forward to new stuff that suits you at whatever size.

Is that all your clothes, OP? Lot less than I have.

And what about shoes: are you tackling shoes, yet?

FWIW, I put almost all my clothes in bags one yr, pulled items out when I wanted to wear them. Damn if I didn't wear everything over the space of one yr (different seasons). Plus a few interview type clothes I felt I should keep. Did not wear all my socks, admittedly, but I will get thru that stockpile one day....

I've changed jobs for at least one year but maybe only one year. New job I need 'office wear' for which means suddenly I have a huge amount of things like very rarely worn jeans. But if I change job back like I want to in 15 months, then the office wear will look very pointless.

Yup, this is everything minus the stuff in the wash. It's several layers deep, but I'm not a big fan of buying clothes. Some items almost make me angry, I dislike them that much! WHY do I hold on to these things??

My underwear /sock /tights pile was that big

So I've got two large reusable shopping bags full of clothes for the charity shop/ rags. I ran out of steam a bit so will go through my keep pile again tomorrow. I'm unsure what to do with clothes that are functional but past their best. I can't really afford to replace them, but if I just get rid of them then I will have no clothes in certain categories

If you are too scared to get rid of them, put them in quarantine and see if you manage for a bit. If you need them back in circulation then so be it, and now you know what you want for your birthday/Xmas!
