Crunchy football socks

We live in a hard water area and DS's football socks just get more crunchy and stiff and hard to put on each week. Can I soak them in anything or wash them with anything to treat this issue?

Do you use softener?

maslinpan · 02/03/2019 11:58

Just fabric conditioner

Have you put them in the dryer? Maybe they are melted! If you think it’s hard water I’d try lemon juice or vinegar.

I'm not the only one who had a giggle about why the socks might be crunchy? No?

We don't have a dryer , but I may have to try fabric softener as they are such a pain to put on each time!

Calgon or you can get cheaper own make versions make the water a bit softer, I put quite a bit in with my towel wash and it did make a small bit of difference.

it's the softener.
it buggers up the elastic, makes thef ibres brittle.

They are one of the few things that shrinks in our dryer. We have hard water and ours come out fine, no softener or fabric conditioner, if they are a little stiff just put them on your hand and stretch them back out.

DemelzaPoldarksshinerrefiner · 03/03/2019 15:40

What temp. are you washing them at ?

Namechange8471 · 03/03/2019 15:42

Mammyloveswine my thoughts exactly Grin

My son's school socks - cotton I thought they were! - always did this the last few years. Hard water area, sweaty feet, no fabric conditioner and no tumble dryer! They were getting stiffer and stiffer and I never did figure out what to do. I've bought him different sorts of socks this year...
