Cleaning stainless steel

Can anyone suggest what product to use to clean a stainless steel tap in the kitchen? I have tried normal kitchen cleaners and barkeeper's friend, neither of which worked. The tap has lots of mottled marks, which looks really unsightly. It is cleaned regularly but is about 8 years old.

Toothpaste and a tooth brush

Vinegar

I squirt a bit of fairy liquid liquid on a damp cloth, lather up then polish off with kitchen roll... worked so far

Scrunch a piece of foil, wet it and scrub the tap.
Magic eraser might work.
