How long for cleaners to clean? AIBU

I live in a relatively clean and tidy new build with four bedrooms, living room, kitchen diner, and wc and two bathrooms.

How many hours would you think would be needed for professional cleaner to clean it all to a reasonable standard? AIBU to think four hours should be enough to do the whole house?

I wpuld say that's plenty, infact probably longer than needed.

birdsdestiny · 16/02/2019 14:30

I would say 2. Mine has 4 bedrooms but only one bathroom. I have 2 hours per week and they always leave 20 minutes early.

Hiphopopotamous · 16/02/2019 14:37

Mine is the same size and we pay for 2 hours. Usually only takes 1h45.

BackforGood · 16/02/2019 14:40

I'd say 2 hours would be plenty.

BackforGood · 16/02/2019 14:41

Although it does take longer at the start - the 2 hours is one they are in the swing, not their first week

loobylou10 · 16/02/2019 14:44

Mines that size and I have 2.5 hours a week. I leave it tidy so all they have to do is clean. Always done to a high standard in that time.

frenchonion · 16/02/2019 14:49

Cleaner here. I'd look to do a 3 or 4 hour starter sesh to get on top of everything, then a two hour clean going forward, or 3 if you want it absolutely gleaming immaculate (eg every skirting board done every week type thing). But two should be plenty for a decent clean.

RumpledOfTheBailey · 16/02/2019 14:50

Ok.. it seems IANBU.

The living room has not been touched at all.

My cleaner does 2 but doesn't do bedrooms and no en suite

JuniorAsparagus · 16/02/2019 15:00

Depends how quickly they work.
We had a cleaner who could do the whole house in 2 and a half hours, but current one, who cleans to a similar standard takes more than three.

I feel really disappointed: I’m not good at cleaning so decided to get professionals in from start to keep my new house lovely from the beginning.

Thanks for the opinions.. I think I’ll look for another company: I’ve already had to moan once before.

Four hours does seem a bit slow, but not out of bounds. Ours has two fewer rooms and one less bath, takes 2.5h.

Have you tried doing the whole job yourself to the standard you expect, and timing it? I did.

SpoonBlender · 16/02/2019 15:06

Xpost with the "not good at cleaning", didn't mean to phrase it goadily but it reads a bit like that - sorry!

RumpledOfTheBailey · 16/02/2019 15:09

😂 fair point, no offence taken, it’s for that very reason I got in professionals.

Yes, I could clean it all in four hours so it’s clean and tidy.

I don’t expect perfection at all; but living room not even vacuumed or dusted, which seems weird

And whilst I’m no Mary Poppins, my house is always of a standard that I’m totally fine with unexpected visitors 😂

Four hours is plenty. It takes 2 hours for me to clean top to bottom my 2 bed flat, kitchen, and bathroom.

SerendipityReally · 16/02/2019 23:00

4 hours is loads.

I am surprised by all the people saying 2 hours though. We have 2 hours but we don't have them do the bedrooms.

RumpledOfTheBailey · 18/02/2019 00:16

Thanks all.

I’ve decided to ask why my living room was untouched and see what they say. Also maybe to give clearer guidance as to what I expect.

I’m crap at this employer lark...

My house is a little bigger but to clean properly I need four hours at least. If a house could be cleaned in two hours nobody would need a cleaner.

Megan2018 · 18/02/2019 06:59

We have a big new 3 bed which sounds similar size as yours (ours is the footprint of an average new build 4 bed but we opted for 3 very large bedrooms).
We only have 2 of the bedrooms cleaned, our cleaner does it in 3hrs, sometimes less.
Ours is very tidy but we have 3 cats so lots of pet hair.
The only exception is when they are new, it took her 2 weeks to get a good routine so took longer.
