Help me with my disgusting oven

Rental property - it genuinely looks like the top of it has never ever been cleaned. BOAK.
I’ve managed to clean the sides and the bottom and the shelves but I can’t seem to even touch the top - I think because spraying stuff on it just drips down and it’s awkward to scrub IYSWIM.
Anyone got any miracle tips?

Fill an oven proof container with water and lemon juice, turn oven on until the water boils, then turn oven off. Once the oven has cooled to a warm (safe) temperature, wipe down using a sponge and hot soapy water.
Once the worst residue has been removed, try oven cleaner again - you might need to apply with a sponge over several goes...

I love the Oven Pride bag cleaning system. The fluid in that usually works beautifully.

Alternatively... you can get a professional clean done (about £40 in my area). Or even better, complain to the rental agency and ask them to rectify.

Agency should have had that cleaned before you moved in!

I'd complain

I’m not lazy but I never clean my oven. There’s a company here who will do it for £25, it’s not worth the hours of my time!

BikeRunSki · 07/02/2019 18:13

Get someone in, it’ll be showroom shiny by the time they’ve finished. Even my domestic MiL gets her oven professionally cleaned.

Get the Oven Mate oven cleaner, it’s a gel that you paint on with supplied brush so it doesn’t drip

LizR19 · 07/02/2019 18:25

I use astonish oven cleaner, green scouring pads and elbow grease.

AiryFairy1 · 07/02/2019 18:30

The Lakeland Oven cleaner is also good. They have one for racks as well :)

AiryFairy1 · 07/02/2019 18:31

*but I’d also complain to LL/agency

Floralnomad · 07/02/2019 18:32

Complain to LL and ask them to arrange for an oven cleaning company to come in .

If you wet a dishwasher tablet so its just starting to dissolve and use it to rub the surface of the glass door it works brilliantly, not tried it on the roof of the oven yet but worth a try!

ohheyfreakingout · 07/02/2019 18:37

There are people you can pay to do this? Oh sweet lord this is music to my ears!

I have complained they are bloody useless.

Thank you for the tips I’m going to have a look and see how much it would be in my area

I think my dsis paid about £120/£150 last week (SE) to have her oven , hob and extractor fan cleaned .

BikeRunSki · 07/02/2019 19:01

I paid £50 for my oven, hob and extractor fan to be cleaned in November. West Yorkshire.
