Hey up guys, my mum is really fussy and won't go out for afternoon tea, so I've decided to have it at my house. Will be 6 ladies and want to make it lovely for my mum because she really does do a lot for us. Any ideas, suggestions, tips or even photos would be of great help.

Thank you xx

Include some small savoury pastry items - sometimes afternoon tea can be a little too sweet for me!
Love it though, hope it’s a nice gathering!

I made these for a recent afternoon tea as part of a savoury selection.
Instead of just sandwiches I made 2 x finger sandwiches per person, 2x asparagus and filo parcels and 1x mini smoked salmon blini per person.
I purchased mini fruit tarts from M&S, quartered caramel and hazelnut brownies, squares of homemade carrot cake and scones.
It was delicious but more time consuming than I expected.

Scones - plain and with sultanas
Selection of finger sandwiches with crusts cut off - classics - ham & whole grain mustard, prawn mayo, egg cress, cucumber and cream cheese, smoked salmon and cream cheese.
Mini quiches - nite sized
Selection of mini cakes and mini eclairs
Selection of teas
Fizz.
Small plates, napkins and use small flowers to decorate the different plates of food to look pretty.

That looks lovely OP! I went for an afternoon tea with a group of people last year and I loved the two-tier cake plates, they are a must IMO Grin

That looks lovely! What are those gin bottles in the background?

sammilou77 · 08/03/2019 18:20

It's a gin teapot, gin milk jug and gin sugar pot x
