Printer recommendations!?! Help!

My ds is needing more bits for his homework now so time to buy a printer.

I'm clueless. I literally am looking at reviews and still have no idea what is a good make or which ones can take cheaper ink cartridges!?

Can anyone recommend a good quality printer b&w with occasional colour for homework mainly budget upto about £40/50?

We’ve just bought a HP 2600 series. Was £30 reduced from £40. Only had it a couple of weeks but impressed so far. They are doing a smart ink thing where they send you ink as and when required. The equivalent of about 15 pages per month is free but we’ve opted for 1.99 per month for 50 pages. I think this is a new thing so whether it’s a gimmick or will work out well I’m not too sure at this stage. However for 1.99 I was happy to give it a try.

We've got an HP with the instant ink thing. Ours is a slightly more expensive model - about £60 I think. Prints, copies and scans. Very easy to operate.

The HP ink thing is great. We don’t print more than 15 sheets a month so our ink is free and the printer cost about £35! Is perfectly good quality for what we need.

We had a fab laser printer which meant a huge outlay on toner but it would last months and months. There were seven people using it regularly and quality was great.

Now we also have an HP scanner, printer, copier because we needed the scanner and copier functions. When I started looking, within a couple of weeks a promotion was on, so you don't need to pay full price.
