Disgusting, mouldy dishwasher.

Over the past few months, my dishwasher seems to be getting mouldy and slimy. It seems like every couple of weeks, just overnight, it will all turn black and smelly.

I clean it each month, rinse the filter every use, leave the door open, rinse times before they go in - but nothing is stopping this! It's never happened before.

Any ideas?

I rinse items, not times 🙄

Sounds strange. Are you talking about the seals or the inside filters. Give everything a good scrub with some bleachy water

You're not meant to rinse before you put dishes into the dishwasher. Detergent needs dirt for the enzymes to latch onto. If you clean first, there's nothing to latch onto, so your dishes end up just getting a rinse. Don't know if that contributed to the dishwasher getting yucky though.

That's what I keep doing, it's all been cleaned with bleach today - the racks, arms and everything keep going a speckled black. But I did this only a few weeks ago and it just comes back.

Have you checked if the water is properly hot?

Washing machines go yucky quickly if they are not run on a hot wash regularly, so maybe you have a problem with the heating element or maybe you run the dishwasher on a low temperature quick or eco wash a bit too often

Oh that's a good point - do you know how to check it?

I'd just open it mid-cycle and check. It should be pretty hot and steamy during a normal wash.

If it is heating the water properly then run the longest, hottest programme with so e dishwasher cleaner. If it's still not right, try soda crystals on the hottest, longest programme, several times if necessary. Don't use anything that's going to foam.
