HELP!!
I had an organic chicken that went off before it's useby date so I chucked it in my main wheelie rubbish bin and forgot all about it.
I thought my garden refuse/food bin stank a bit more than usual and then I realised the
CHICKEN WAS STILL THERE STUCK TO THE BOTTOM OF THE BIN...... which is why the bin men didn't take it!
Honestly it is too revolting to go into but I got it out and stuck it in about 10 rubbish bags and put it back in the bin hoping it would stop the stink
(the rubbish men don't come til friday......) What should I do? I guess I have to face the music and take it to the tip I don't want my neighbours to smell it for much longer....
I have to take it to the tip don't I?
BUT IT SMELLS SO BAD!!!

clothespeg on your nose?

Do the shake n vac?

Busybean · 01/07/2007 23:23

why did you not put it in a bag in the first place?

DrippingLizzie · 01/07/2007 23:24

Have you got any old Giorgio perfume? That'll douse any smells.

Aitch · 01/07/2007 23:24

grab it, put it in fifteen plastic bags and stick it in your freezer ntil the next pick-up. or find a shop wheelie bin and throw it in there.

LyraB · 01/07/2007 23:25

wrap it in newspaper, then put it in a bag.

sparklygothkat · 01/07/2007 23:28

When that happened to me (chicken was in a bag, but not taken for some reason) I bleached my bin, and then used some of that Zoflora stuff, in the bin, it took the smell away.

StarryStarryNight · 01/07/2007 23:32

I once drove across town with a stinking chicken in the booth of my car with the sole purpose of finding a suitable bin...

StinkyBin · 01/07/2007 23:48

Starry did you find a bin?
Busybean I so should have put it in a bag....
I think I just need to face it and get it out of there into fifteen bags and drive round til I can offload

But it is the WORST thing I've ever smelt

I so nearly became a vegetarian in a kind of Road to Damascus way!

Thanks Thanks Thanks for advice, I don't feel quite so alone in my CHICKEN HORROR!!!

LOL, I did find a bin! One of them huge round bins on wheels outside a block of flats!

Was I mean to offload my problem??

BBBee · 01/07/2007 23:49

(put it in the bin by the bus stop)

sparklygothkat · 01/07/2007 23:51

the smell is terrible, I remember it from my chicken experience..... I thought that something had crawled and died in my bin cupboard...

StarryStarryNight · 01/07/2007 23:56

I have actually had worse. We have a fishpond. A 40 cm long fat carpe died. It was that really warm and sunny summer, weeks of 30 degrees. Fish died the day after bins were collected. I wrapped it in a binliner and left it in the backgarden. Took it out into the bins 6 days later. A few days after that I neighbour chucked out her materasses, curtains, bedlinens, duvets, dumped the lot.
Her bins were standing on lit de parade foaming at the top. I asked her why. She said she thought there was a dead fox in her garden, but she couldnt find it. Or her dog had killed a rat in the house somewhere. (!!! at rat) The smell had totally permeated all her soft furnishings. Then I realised the fish had fallen out of the bins and where under the bushes in her garden, the bag half torn. I had not realized as I had no windows in that direction and had been ill in bed.... I could not tell her the truth...

sparklygothkat · 02/07/2007 00:05

SSN How terrible!! I wouldn;t have been able to tell her the truth either, I know when we had the stinky chicken, the smell actually came into my house, and it was nasty.. your poor neighbour..

StarryStarryNight · 02/07/2007 00:09

Chicken, fish, any living organism smells absolutely vile when decomposing.... Horrible.

sparklygothkat · 02/07/2007 00:15

take it it was abit big to flush down the loo then SSN??

StinkyBin · 02/07/2007 00:33

Starry LOL LOL!!! that is so horrible that I feel slightly hysterical!!!

If I'd known how bad it could be I could have COOKED the bugger and binned it but never ever will I be so dumb again!! I'm gonna face it and take it out and roam til I find it a HOME!

But I cannot bear to speak of the MAGGOTS!!! Do you think they've eaten through the 45 binliners I put it all in??? How can the smell get through that many bags??

Sparkly - far too big for the Bog!

You realise I've had to namechange I am so so ashamed!!

OP posts:
StarryStarryNight · 02/07/2007 00:34

Sparklygothkat, it was 40 cm long, that is nearly half a meter, AND fat... Yup, too big to flush. ewwww

StinkyBin · 02/07/2007 00:35

I guess that is pretty obvious... no one would really choose such a name would they?

My lovely lovely neighbour and she is so clean and civlised and I am such aslattern in comparison. She must think I am VERMINOUS!!!

I think I will have to defeat Devilpoultry and then buy her chocs....

StarryStarryNight · 02/07/2007 00:37

StinkyBin, LOL, I do realize you have namechanged, who in their right mind would choose stinky as their regular posting name ha ha.

Go girl, give your chicken a new home in another bin.

Not to mention the flies that will start flying around making a loud buzzing nose when you touch the bag, and it will look like the whole bag has a life of its own.

(In addition to my fish incident I too have had a chicken incident, as mentioned...Goodenss, this was never an area I aimed to get experience in)

StinkyBin · 02/07/2007 00:39

Thanks SSN, it is late and I am tramatised by the whole thing, honestly I has given me the Fear!!!!
In a profound way I have become my new name - deep inside until that vile thing is gone I AM STINKY BIN!!!

OP posts:
StinkyBin · 02/07/2007 00:40

AND HOW can a smell get through that many bags? I simply don't understand that?

OP posts:
sparklygothkat · 02/07/2007 00:41

Its the maggots that smell, I believe.. [puke] I never ever want to smell that smell again, my neighbours thought something like a rat had died in my long grass.. I could have killed DH as he was the one that just threw it out in a carrier bag, if he had bagged it in one of the binbag it would have been taken with the rubbish

StarryStarryNight · 02/07/2007 00:41

You better hurry then, or the smell will linger. You could do another namechange and be smellycat

StinkyBin · 02/07/2007 00:41

Traumatised..... Tramatised? Traumatised by a Tram?
