Oil smell on clothes

My idiot DH put his work clothes in the wash with our normal clothes, they must have had some oil or petrol or something on them as now the whole washing including the babies clothes smell of oil/petrol.

I've re washed them but it hasn't helped. Does anyone know how to get the smell out?

I'm trying white vinegar in the detergent!

Had the same issue a week ago, I ended up washing the stuff twice, then when that didn’t do anything I washed at the hottest temp my machine could go (90) and figured the clothes would have to be chucked anyway so might as well try. It worked and nothing was too damaged. Good luck. Will check back for better/other ideas.

I was going to suggest the vinegar.

You could also try putting some soda crystals in the wash. They shift grease etc so you never know.

Thanks, for the suggestions. I've had to pop out so will see if the vinegar helped when I get back.

Two 60 degree washes with white vinegar and it's worked
