Hire or buy carpet cleaner?

we are on a tight budget, but desperately need to clean our carpets.

I've been told that to get a good carpet cleaner you need to spend at least £200 and we just haven't got that sort of money atm.

Should I rent a machine for about £30?
Or buy a cheap one?

What do you suggest?

How many carpets?

We had our sitting room carpet professionally cleaned for £26. Cheaper than if I'd hired the machine and done it myself.

the rug doctor machines are really good- but its a case of long term gain in our house- we would be hiring one every month so it was better to buy one in the first place! I got mine from graded electricals on ebay, vax all singing and dancing for £90, def worth a look- even the cheaper machines do a good job it might just take a bit longer- ie going over the carper twice!

one of my old bosses got an absolutley fantatsic stean carpet cleaner from our local DIY store for £99.... not that expensive and it works brilliantly.

round here if i get a special offer that comes through my door occasionaly i can have my whole house carpets clenaed for £84

Bissell quick wash carpet cleaner is awesome. Got mine brand new from ebay for £69 and it has worked wonders!

I would second the Bisell.

I really need to buy a carpet cleaner. Which bissell is it that you've used? There's loads of different models

Does anyone know how much the postage is from Bissell Shop Direct? there is no info whatsoever on their website about delivery.

Mine is the Quick Wash version - its in argos for £99.99 but on ebay it was cheaper.

Really is a godsend, light, easy to store and use, and brings carpets up like new.

Wouldnt be without mine.

I 'won' a brand new Vax Rapide carpet cleaner on Ebay for just £29 and it's fantastic!
