Dishwasher help!

Our dishwasher has been leaving horrible residue and sand like stuff all over our pots. It mainly affects anything on the top shelf.

I regularly clean it and always ensure the salt is replenished.

Getting to the point of just wanting to hand wash stuff but my other half who does the cooking (he works from home so does it in the week) uses every pan, utensil and baking tray in the kitchen and our kitchen is seriously tiny so handwashing i would have to wash bits, dry them and put away then wash more etc. I don't have the time or energy after work to do that.

Any advise on giving the dishwasher a good old clean?

There's probably some food stuck. Pull out the food trap and give it a good wash. (Usually that's where it will be) boil a kettle and put it down where you just took the food trap. Get a dish washer cleaner open it and put some of it on a rag or kitchen towel and use it to scrub the for where the seal meets (it's normally disgusting but it's nothing to do with your issue) then run it on as hot as you can get it with the dishwasher cleaner in. If that doesn't work then crack out the white vinegar spray it everywhere in the machine leave for 10 then hot wash.

If it's just the top shelf have you checked tat none of the holes in the spray arm are blocked.

Other ideas:

You need to clean the filter pretty much every time you put a load on.

I remove our seal and clean it but as other poster has said they get super gross and filthy.

I clean my dishwasher thoroughly once a month (remove filter and seal and clean any awkward bits like around the door hinges where shit seems to accumulate). Then I run it with two bowls full of white vinegar (one bowl on top shelf and one on bottom) on the hottest cycle.

If you use salt I assume you don't use all in one tablets. If not you will also need to use rinse aid.

Thank you. I'll get some vinegar and give that a go! I take every removable part and soak and scrub them at least once a month! I give the dishwasher a good clean before each use too

You usually only get this if it’s out of salt, if the salts full maybe it’s not set high enough for your water hardness?.

There should be a section in the manual for setting it up and water hardness should be on your water boards website.

Have you washed something with mashed potatoes on it? I find that’s usually the problem
