Should I give dds their own rooms or is it ok for them to share?

Dd2 is due in October, dd1 will be 22 months then. Does the court of mn think it is ok for them to share a room and for how long so that dh and I can keep the other room as a study? Any experience/views most welcome as I'm feeling a bit guilty about not automatically clearing out the study for dd2.

we cleaned out the 2nd room for DS2 when he arrived - and when we bought a new house made sure it had 3 bedrooms so they could have a room each........by the time DS2 was about 8 months old they were sharing a room (3yr age gap) and still are now (DS2 will be 4 in November). Study is too small and too cold (needs insulating properly - but isn't cavity wall so is going to be costly) so when DS3 is out of our room in a few months time all 3 will be sharing (and we'll still have a study )

My dds are 10 & 8 (-tomorrow!) and they still share a room. Do what's best for you. Don't fret. We kept a bedroom spare too and the dds are fine. Tbh I think they keep each other company.

Have them share for as long as possible but cast your mind back to when you and you siblings hit puberty

Seperate rooms will be essential eventually.

Agree, finally (this week in fact) all dds now in their own rooms. Dd3 (9) is not very happy as she thinks she will feel lonely but dd2 (11) wants her own space. Fair enough.

my DSs (5 and 3) share a room and love it. they want DS3 (4m) to move in as soon as possible as well!!

i have a 5 year old and 2 year old that share, have been since they were 4 and nearly 1. it works for them. 5 year old soon to have own room and 2 year old and baby will share
sharing is good, I'd ssave having their own rooms til they're older and maybe need the space a bit mpore

Yes sharing rooms is great for kids I think.They usually love it up to a certain age.

Thanks for all the replies and I'm so pleased I can now not feel guilty about keeping my study. Do you give them each a wardrobe, each a bookshelf, etc etc to give them their own spaces in the room or does everything just get mixed up?

DS1 was 2 when DS2 arrived. After several weeks we had them sharing - but DS2 did inevitably disturb DS1 so for about a year we had them in separate rooms. For the last year they've been sharing again but we are planning to separate again because their sleeping habits are so different - DS2 sleeps less and disturbs DS1 a lot. I wanted them to be able to share but I don't like to see DS1 getting tired & grumpy!

Thing is, if you have got the extra room the temptation to separate them at early signs of trouble are great.

It does work fine for people who have to make it work.
