I can’t work out why but the softener isn’t being taken down into the machine (I know there’s a popular opinion you don’t need softener anyway but I find everything a bit ‘crunchy’ without my Comfort!)

The same compartment keeps filling with water so it’s clearly getting into the tray, just won’t come out. I’ve YouTube’d a few videos and given it a good clean, even the jet bits with those little toothbrush things (and a whole heap of gunk came out) I’ve switched to using tablets in the drum but would really like to sort this and get back to normal. Any ideas?

Have you tried running a hot/boil wash? It may well be that when you loosened all the gunk from the fabric softener dispenser (and when you cleaned the water jets above where the drawer sits) you have caused some of the gunk to fall down the main pipe at the back of that section and it may be clogging up the internal pipes in the machine.

I’ll give that a go, thanks!

I second a hottest possible service ( empty ) wash, and would put a cup of normal white vinegar in the conditioner compartment too to help flush the pipes etc out. Also dont forget to pull and degunk the filter on the machine. Eg:- On a Miele it is located on the bottom lhs of the machine front behind the flap and the filter unscrews : you may need a towel on the floor to collect excess water 💧 I put a washing up bowl/bucket next to the machine and use a Chinese takeaway container to collect the water and tip into bucket in case there’s more than one container full, also the wet towel can be quickly popped in it . You can look up old user manuals online which can useful.
