.... floor cleaning!

How do you clean yours? Mine never feels properly clean, I use a vileda mop hot water and dettol, am I doing it wrong?

What do you use?

Not very well!

I usually vacuum mine when I do the carpets to pick up loose crumbs etc. But if I'm washing it, I do it with an Eco mop and water for a quick job, or with soapy water and a scrubbing brush if it needs a more thorough clean. I sometimes do a quick wipe with dilute zoflora, but DH complains that his shoes make a squeaky noise on the floor after this.

Probably not the most helpful answer!

Iamdobby63 · 06/01/2019 11:12

What kind of flooring do you have?

Dettol is an antiseptic you probably need to add some sort of floor wash, when using mop and bucket I tend to use a squirt of flash and either squirt of bleach or zoflora (prefer the smell to Dettol. In between I will just use a damp microfibre pad. I have dogs and do kitchen floor most days.

Cynderella · 06/01/2019 11:24

Bio washing powder and hot water.

Zoflorabore · 06/01/2019 12:14

Our local chemist always smells amazing and I asked one of the staff what she was using as I went in one day as she was doing the floors.
She said fairy washing up liquid, dettol and bleach Shock but I've always believed in only using one chemical as they can interact quite dangerously, esp bleach.

I tend to use Zoflora and an eye drop of washing up liquid but do always have dettol in the house if I fancy a change.

Floor cleaner and disinfectant with hot water. Mop and bucket.

MikeUniformMike · 07/01/2019 17:45

I sweep mine, then wash with water with stardrops in it with a mop.
Just dettol in water will not clean it properly.

EggysMom · 07/01/2019 17:47

Husband!

Don't know what he does or how he does it, I just come home to a clean floor every Monday Smile

I Hoover and give a quick mop with boiling water and zoflora most mornings

pfwow · 07/01/2019 19:38

Vinegar, boiling hot water and a small amount of floor cleaning product and a mop.

Atalune · 07/01/2019 19:42

Vacuum first, then Stem mop with a titch of zoflora.

confusedandemployed · 07/01/2019 19:43

Are spray mops any good? Or should I invest in a steam mop? X

Mama2Cat · 08/01/2019 14:30

Those with Steam Mops - any recommendations for brand / type?

Palaver1 · 08/01/2019 14:36

What matters is the mop is clean.you need some detergent as well and clean properly

Atalune · 10/01/2019 15:46

I have a hotpoint steam mop that I bought in the sales last year. It’s good! £79 I think.

Atalune · 10/01/2019 15:47

The thing I like about the steam mop if that I can take pad off and sling it in the machine every time I clean the floor.

Wavingwhiledrowning · 10/01/2019 15:50

We've got a steam mop that hoovers at the same time. Its a Vax I think. Has saved loads of time and stopped me pushing damp piles of dust into the corners of the room all the time!

12fromcold · 10/01/2019 18:30

Got my spray mop today and I'm in love.

Quick vacuum with the Dyson cordless and the quick mop. All done within 10 minutes!

Crimson72 · 11/01/2019 07:50

I vacuum, then use an e-cloth mop plus Method wooden floor cleaner. I’m wondering if I’m missing something by not using boiling hot water though?

WinnerWinnerChickenDinner0 · 13/01/2019 09:10

I would think that the dettol is your issue.

Dettol is a good disinfectant but really only suitable for disinfecting clean areas. You need something with a surfactant (bubbles) to break down the dirt first. Even fairy liquid in water would be good (a small drop). Most importantly give your mop a sniff before you start. It it smells, bleach the buggery out of it 😁

Also, make to change the water when it gets dirty. At least a new bucket for each room. Otherwise you are just slopping dirty water around the house

Some amazing tips in here from everybody. Thank you!

Do you put the zoflora in the steam mop?

3catsandcounting · 21/01/2019 13:40

Would really not recommend using anything other than water in a steam mop (unless it's specifically designed for it).
I wrecked my first steam mop using a squirt or two of Flash detergent every time. It clogged up the tubes eventually and stopped the steam coming through.
