Has anyone got an electra washing machine?

And if so, is there a magic button somewhere to make it work?
I have a new one, and I can't make it work..... it has power, it has water, the drum turns easily if you do it manually.
I have selected the program and pressed the start button. And nothing happens....
As this is a replacement for one that had the same problem, the common factor is me..

What am I doing wrong? Is there something special that I need to do?

Possible issues are:
Have you chosen the correct wash programme, ie is the dial turned completely to the correct programme. If the dial is between two different programmes it won't work. Also, if you select certain extra options (auxiliary options) they are not always compatible with each main wash programme.

Do you have a manual?

Have you hit the delay wash button by accident?

Have you pressed the actual start/pause button in order to start the programme? Sorry if that's a stupid question!

A problem with the door seal will prevent it working.

Is the water supply turned on correctly?

Yes to checking all of the above :)
I even read the manual cover to cover.

It has power, it has water, tried almost every program.
I don't think I've hit the delay button, but if I had, it's had the maximum 9 hours delay so should have run something.

I've never had a washing machine that hasn't just worked, but as this is the second apparently faulty one, I was wondering if I was missing something obvious (well, obvious to anyone except me).

When you turn yours on, which lights come on? When I start, and turn the dial to say the 60 degree 60 minute wash, I get the light between the word 'wash' and '3hr' flashing, and a light next to the 60 degree temp indicator. The manual doesn't say anything about a flashing light.
I'm calling their technical department tomorrow, as they're not open at the weekend, but was hoping that someone on the wonderful mumsnet might have had a similar issue...

The light between wash and 3hr does flash when you select the programme and the temperature. I then hit the start button and that starts the machine. Light is now on constantly.

Thank you!
So flashing light is normal. I hit start and nothing happens. Absolutely nothing - it doesn't try and fill, no nothing.
Maybe I have been unlucky enough to get two faulty ones in a row.
Will talk to their tech team tomorrow, and see what they say.

I NEED a working machine - I haven't had one since before Christmas...

i have realised that my entire work and weekend wardrobe involves 3 pairs of jeans, one pair of leggings, half a dozen jumpers, 2 white shirts. Once those are out of the picture, I have had to resort to some rather odd combinations of clothes that I very rarely wear. :)

When you hit the start button does it make a clicking noise - friend had similar washing machine and she had to press start button twice to activate the machine. May be worth a try. Is there any particular reason why you have that brand of machine? If you have to have it replaced could/would you try another brand? (Just being nosy!)

pinktransit · 06/01/2019 21:34

I would never have thought to try pressing the start button twice.... actually it takes 3 presses, and then it works!!

No particular reason for that brand, other than it came in black, was reasonably cheap and could be delivered on Christmas eve. And then when the first one only worked intermittently, the option for replacement was the same model.

I'm still not convinced that it's supposed to work like that - there's nothing in the manual or online, or in any of the reviews that mentions it. However, I actually have laundry being done, so can't complain :)

Thank you so much for your help - knowing that a flashing light was normal was good, pressing twice was genius!

No problem - glad it helped. My current machine is an Indesit and the start/pause button has to be pressed twice. No idea why - did wonder if it was a safety feature so you couldn't start it by accident.

Also, the light that flashes should be for the delay wash function - if you press the delay button the flashing light will stop flashing at the 3hr option. If you keep pressing the delay button the light should move down from 3hrs to 6hrs etc.
