Combi oven

We are having a new kitchen and the design shows an oven and a separate combi oven but no microwave. I don't know much about combi ovens and wondered if anyone could tell me their experiences, good and bad, please. We are quite heavy users of the microwave.

I think I mean combination microwave if that's different.

If you go to a local white goods dealer they will be able to demonstrate one for you. When used correctly they are really good. Not only can they be used as a separate oven or microwave but you can also use them to dual cook and this can cut the time everything takes to cook. It’s like having a double oven. They tend to be much more expensive than a microwave by itself so if you feel you would only use it as a microwave it’s a bit expensive. Any good dealer will have live appliances and would be happy to show you how they work.

Hi Fantata

we bought one just before christmas. I'm quite impressed with it so far. I've used the microwave function and also the convection function which is just like a normal oven, both are fine and work as you would expect.
I've only used the combi cook part once so far. Cooked a joint of beef using microwave and convection combination, the meat cooked really well and was delicious. All the instructions on how to do this are in the manual.

It does take a bit of getting used to but its a great bit of kit. The one we purchased comes with a really good manual which I think is essential to enable you to get the best out of it.

This is the one we got.

Mine is a bit rubbish as a microwave but bakes beautifully on the turbo fan setting. It’s the Lamona one, from Howdens.

Thanks for your answers. I've been trying to work out whether to get a double oven and a microwave or an oven and a combi (or all 3). For historic reasons, we have two microwaves and a double oven atm and do use both microwaves, although I'd say it's the sort of thing where you'd easily get used to not having two and we rarely use both microwaves and both ovens at the same time. Would prefer to have all three in some ways but obviously there's a cost and space compromise. It does sound as though a combi and an oven would be a perfectly sensible solution.

Thanks again for your time in replying.
