Am I missing a trick because mine keep dying! It’s just a cheap IKEA think but fills the space beautifully

We could kill a plant just buying it. Trial and error and now we have a cheese plant which kept loosing leaves it got down to one, we moved it to a dark corner and only water once a month and it's thriving nicely.

Once a month?! I’m trying to revive mine by watering it. Maybe I’m making it worse?!

I thought I'd killed my IKEA Venus fly trap thing but it seems to go through phases of dying off and reflowering.

What is it? You need to Google the needs of that particular plant. They are all different, and requirements will also vary throughout the year.

I have no idea!

This thing! Will go google what it needs

More plants are killed off with overwatering than underwatering. Maybe you're drowning it?!

Is it too close to the window? Sunny windows don't seem to suit many plants.

ATowelAndAPotato · 02/01/2019 12:32

It has care instructions on the link you posted 😁 maybe you are over-watering?

Smurfybubbles · 02/01/2019 12:39

Definately look up how often it needs to be watered! We have over 15 houseplants and all are different! Recently killed a fern as I didn't realize they need watering small and often and don't like the shock of their soil drying out Confused

Napssavelives · 02/01/2019 14:49

Does it?! Maybe I’m too stupid for plants!

I think most people kill houseplants with too much love! Most houseplants you can buy generally thrive on neglect. Of course there are some that need more care. We have loads of house plants that need not too much sun and barely any watering - ficus, aloe Vera, succulents etc.

I have this exact plant from Ikea! I agree it’s a beautiful way to brighten up a space Smile I’ve kept mine alive since April by:

Keeping it in a bright room but out of direct sunlight (to avoid burning the leaves)

Water less in winter - wait for soil to dry between waterings

Mist with a water bottle once a week or so

You can strip off any dead leaves. Good luck!
