Please someone tell me this is possible
I have trawled the internet but to no avail and my preteen daughter laughs and says it is not possible
Please help me prove her wrong!!

do you have to have 97 channels?

OP posts:
Tutter · 27/06/2007 18:31

why don't you get freeview?

MrRuffalo · 27/06/2007 18:31

freeview does not work in my area tutter!

You might be surprised -- my mum and dad live in an area with no freeview (officially), but BIL bought them a box, installed it, and bingo!

Ask around and see if anyone locally has freeview.

Otherwise you can get the cable company's basic range, which will be the 5 terrestrial channel plus BBC3, BBC4, ITV2, and a few things like More4, which are occasionally quite fun.

NotQuiteCockney · 27/06/2007 18:38

Cable means you have to pay monthly. Any chance you can get a better arial? If you get professionals in to fit it etc, then it can work a lot better ...

MrRuffalo · 27/06/2007 18:38

ooh thankyou frogs!

nqc - the house is very high and current owners say people will not do work on roof!

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 27/06/2007 20:37

If the roof isn't an option, you can have an arial in the loft space? That's what we used to have, and it worked fine, until we converted the loft, at which point the arial had to be moved to a nearby flat roof.

MrRuffalo · 27/06/2007 22:26

thats an idea nqc

spmepne did say you could get a cable package with internet phone and just 4 channels......

cece · 27/06/2007 22:28

Freeview - much more limited choice of channels and free(of course once installed).

MrsScavo · 27/06/2007 22:33

You mean AERIAL.

I'm not a pedant, but there are baby names threads going on.

MrRuffalo · 27/06/2007 23:51

i Live in an area with no freeview too.... and dodgy analouge tv signal as well...

trust me if you live in my house even with the best areiel (which i have on my roof) I will NEVER get free view. and yes i have tried

Im making do with just 4 channels (no c5 either) and often 1 or 2 of the channels is simply not watchable

could get sky but dont want it...

want freeview but cant have it

spoke to an areial man last weekend at my mums who when i told him where i lived say oh you live THERE... that is one of the worst spots to live on and even if i come im unlikly to make the reception any better

nooka · 28/06/2007 10:00

I think it's worth asking an aerial specialist rather than just relying on the opinion of the previous owners. You never know you might find someone who is quite happy to do it, with the right sort of equipment (my parent's have had an aerial installed on the roof of their five story house for example). You can also have aerials fixed to your outside wall (my house has one). There are also signal enhancers that you can buy.

nearlythere · 28/06/2007 10:06

you could always have sky freesat installed- my mil did this, you pay for the box and installation but then there is no subscription, you get all the freeview channels and a few extra sky ones. And best bit is that it doesn't use the aerial, they put a dish and it comes via satalite like normal sky!

MrRuffalo · 28/06/2007 18:14

yes nannyl we truly have a choice of two channels but i am a horrible snob about only having terrestrial tv channels

OP posts:
MrRuffalo · 28/06/2007 18:15
