Getting smoke smell out of leather

I have bought a lovely (second hand) mulberry handbag, however the previous owner was a smoker (disclosed). The bag smell strongly of cigarettes and I was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to get rid of the smell?

So far I’ve wiped it inside and out Witt fragrance free baby wipes.

I’ve been leaving it sitting next to a slightly open window.

And last night I put it in a airtight box with some bicarbonate of soda.

I think the above has helped a tiny bit.

Any other ideas?

keep going with the bicarb of soda that should definitely work but could take a few days. If the bag is leather you could also polish it - clarks sell some good leather polishes for use on bags . Good luck!

I had the same problem with a beautiful soft leather bag I bought from eBay - the only thing that worked was spraying it inside and out with neat vodka (cheap stuff obviously) many times, and leaving outside to dry in the meantime. Took about a couple of weeks spraying every day but the smell has gone completely.
