Decluttering before the new year - anyone else?

I've just spent the morning going through my bedroom/study and managed to fill a bag for recycling and one black bag as well as a few storage boxes that we no longer need!
I'm planning on going through the whole house so that by new year the house is neat and we have some breathing space.
I read once that people clear a whole shelf to welcome in the new year. I don't know if I'll manage that, but if we could get to the stage where everything has a place we'll be starting the year in a better position than ever before!
Anyone else doing that this week?

@Booksandpens

That's one thing I won't get rid of my kids books
As soon as one is done with them the next one will need them etc.
I don't know what I'll do when there is no younger sibling to pass them too- hopefully stash them somewhere for visiting kids and future grandkids!
I do go through mine but they are the thing I'm least happy to part with of my own too

Just doing a deep clean and them I'm going to go through the toys tonight- wish me luck!

Good luck! Not looking forward to doing toys at all.

We got rid of the books we don't enjoy reading to them, mostly the cheaper ones that we bought. We still have 7 kallax cubes of children's books, and kept the classics.

I'm moving next week so will be watching this thread. Been sorting/packing for a while now. 2 bags to the charity shop so far this wk and 2 more going out tmo. I've also put a couple things on Freecycle. Did entire KonMarie earlier this yr but more bits and bobs since then. Never gotten as bad as it was before that though so I'm determined to continue. It's made me shop a bit more mindfully I think.

I've neglected my housekeeping since the autumn and culminated with a builder/decorater doing some work in December and the place was a mess. Clutter, no way of cleaning or dusting as it was a thankless task.

Anyway, in a bid to get over jet lag over the past week, I've kept myself busy by having a massive clear out - mainly books, kids clothes & unwanted kitchen items.

I'm working my way around the living room doing a deep clean. My goal is to have it all spik & span by start of term.

Then my Jan 2019 clutter-free year can begin, I find breaking tasks down helps & realising that the old newspaper from 6 months ago which you kept really isn't necessary in your life.

Onwards fellow de-clutterers!

DCs at DGPs so I'm tidying up. Did one hour of 15 minutes increments. Not much decluttering yet, but living room is almost sorted, kitchen is almost done too, and the master bedroom is looking a lot neater. Think I'll do another 30 minutes before picking the DCs up.

We've been to the tip today to get rid of some bits. Still more to go, though!
