Is there any way to remove sweat stains from clothing?

I'm sure this has been done before but can't find anything. Is there a sure way of removing sweat stains from clothes, or do they just need to be thrown away?

I think the latter, schnapps - but I'd love to be proved wrong.

The only thing that occurs to me that might work is to steam the stain. I've got a little hand-held steamer called a penguin which is supposed to remove things like this.

I've never been arsed to try it out .. but you'd certainly want a dry application (in as much as steam is dry), in preference to a wet application.

I would love an answer to this too.

Try soaking in a solution of bicarbonate of soda before washing. Alternatively try soaking in diluted white vinegar - that always takes away sweaty smells, so it might just take away stains, too. White vinegar doesn't harm fabrics (I've used it on a cashmere jumper), and I don't think bicarb does, either.
