Urgh! Just opened up the Xmas tree (bought it a week ago and left it so quite possibly my fault....) and quite a few insects have fallen out!

We have opened it and put it out in the garden while we form a plan.

Really don't want to chuck it out and replace it. Any tips or hints for how We can save the tre

It is a tree and the insects have taken refuge in it much the same way as they would have done when it was growing outside. Just put it up and any stray insects will probably tootle off.

CurlsLDN · 09/12/2018 18:26

As in, it's infested with a plague of aphids, or as in a few woodlice dropped out when you opened it?

If the latter, I reckon they've just seen a lovely pile of leafy branches to shelter from the rain and cold in. Just give it a shake.

Smurfy23 · 09/12/2018 18:29

Possibly the former.....? There were quite a few of them....

What kind of insects?

Smurfy23 · 09/12/2018 18:33

I'm not sure to be honest. Possibly aphids

We just bought our tree and brought it in. Got all the boxes of decorations down from the attic, and next thing there is a ladybird flying around the room!! (They're fast and noisy buggers)

I can't decide if it came in on the tree or was hibernating in the loft.

WipsGlitter · 09/12/2018 18:44

We've two trees and lady birds came out of both of them!

Give it a good shake outside and it'll be fine.

Is it your first time getting a real tree?

MaidenMotherCrone · 09/12/2018 18:48

Give it a few sharp bangs on the ground and a good shake.

Smurfy23 · 09/12/2018 19:03

No we have had real trees for last few years. Nothing like this before!

My friend had an aphid infested tree last year. She got rid and replaced it with a fake one.

We got a real tree last year. A potted one because we was going to plant it in the new year. 2 weeks before Christmas we were completely over run with little bugs and they were all over the tree and some of the decs were ruined. The shop we bought it from collected it and gave us a full refund. We spent it in the same shop but bought a fake one instead. I absolutely love real trees and last year was our first time buying one. This year I've bought a potted one to decorate in the garden and we are going to plant it in the new house when we move in the new year.
