Polyester Bedding

Someone has just bought a bedding set for my son for Christmas. I thought I'd bung it in the wash before the big day so I can put it straight on his bed when he unwraps it. When I opened the packaging I realised it is 100% polyester and feels vile. Please tell me it will soften up in the wash!?

I'm not a bedding snob, usually go for polycotton which feels fine! I'm thinking I shouldn't have opened it and should perhaps try to replace it with a nicer set so no-one is any the wiser!!

Wash it on the lowest setting possible (30c preferably), and only add a little bit of detergent! White vinegar instead of fabric softener to keep it soft and on an 800 spin. But you have to make sure it is on a low heat otherwise it will crease and shrink up! We have this problem in the laundry where I work! People put polyester on hot washes and it rendered the bedding completely useless and we have to throw them.

Thanks.... well it's washed and dried and still feels awful. I may have to shop around to see if I can find similar in cotton or polycotton!
