I’ve moved into a flat and it doesn’t matter what I put down the loos they look stained and disgusting. I’ve tried vikal, caustic soda, bleach, kilrock big k! They look cleaner but then small brown bits arrive like someone has been and not used the brush and then they look stained again. Any ideas?

I read somewhere to pour a bottle of coke down and leave it overnight?

Bigonesmallone3 · 29/11/2018 19:56

Harpic, the black one

BubonicWoman · 29/11/2018 19:56

Is it lime on the toilet bowl? That goes brown quickly and bleach just makes it look white for a short time
I live in a hard water area. You can get it off with a pumice stone

Oddsocksandmeatballs · 29/11/2018 20:01

Push the water out with a toilet brush then use Harpic and leave overnight, flush in the morning.

Harpic the black one & the tablets that they do also in a black box

Klobuchar · 29/11/2018 20:03

What colour is the staining? If it’s orange, you will need a rust remover. We had same problem.

bellsbuss · 29/11/2018 20:04

Yes full fat Coke should shift it, put a 1 or 2p coin in a glass of it and see what happens

makingmiracles · 29/11/2018 20:15

Bottle of black harpic, last thing at night after everyones been to the loo and most if not all should be gone in the morning

Wauden · 29/11/2018 20:20

It is limscale which is trapping the brown stains. Scoop out as much water as you can, ie remove the water as much as possible, then scrape off the timescale with pumice stone or knife or metal spatula. Needs elbow grease. Been there, done it Halo

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 29/11/2018 22:59

Nooo Coke just stains the limescale brown. (I got a bottle with a take away , we don't drink it )

Astonish Toilet tablets - about £2.60 for 10 . Try at least 2 in the bowl, overnight . Then scrub.

greatauntpearl · 01/12/2018 17:23

Right I am on it! Thank you all. I might try it all at once, blow it up and claim on the insurance.......

Professional lime scale remover from Robert Dyas.

It works.

slothy · 03/12/2018 06:58

Brick cleaning acid from a hardware shop... a glug down the loo will shift anything...

BillyAndTheSillies · 03/12/2018 07:03

Another vote for harpic black here! It's my holy grail now.

WereYouHareWhenIWasFox · 03/12/2018 07:06

Coke does shit, why do people always recommend that? Actually do what a PP said and put some coppers in a glass of coke, it will show you just how ineffective it is! 😂

jellyshoeswithdiamonds · 03/12/2018 09:13

Tesco's limescale remover £1 a bottle, marvellous stuff.

showmeyourgroovymoves · 03/12/2018 12:15

I got some concentrated sulphuric acid from a plumber. That did the trick Wink

iforgotwhatiwasgoingtosay · 19/12/2018 12:45

Denture Tablets and Harpic Black

Gibble1 · 19/12/2018 23:08

You actually need to to scrub it too if you have hard water- ours gets scaled up very quickly so needs a loo brush used every couple of days but our water is hard as nails.

Adoremygirls319 · 19/12/2018 23:12

Harpic got rid of the awful timescale in our toliet that we discovered in our new house... literally tried everything else, this removed in around 30mins ! Good luck

Adoremygirls319 · 19/12/2018 23:12

Limescale even*
