De stinking clothes- febreeze type smell

Anyone have any good methods for getting fragrance out of clothes?

I bought a cashmere jumper on ebay and it absolutely stinks of febreeze/fabric conditioner/perfume, so far it's had a hand wash and a day on the washing line and it still stinks.

My usual approach to 'the stench of ebay' is to chuck it straight in the washing machine then leave it out on the washing line for a week or so. But I need something gentler for cashmere, any ideas?

You probably shouldn’t take advice from me, since I shrink cashmere almost without fail, but a soak in a bicarbonate of soda solution?

Put it on a 20c wash, the lowest spin on the machine and add some fabric softener and a tiny bit of detergent powder.

Give it an extra rinse and spin once it has finished to ensure that the excess detergent comes out of the jumper. Then hang it outside to dry (or indoors. It doesn't matter which)

IMPORTANT: Always make sure you put It on a slow spin! Very important, and make sure the temperature is on the lowest setting.
