43 inch or 49 inch tv for lounge?

We are looking to buy a new television for our 16 foot x 12 foot lounge - but can't decide between a 43 inch or a 49 inch. Our initial thought was the 49 inch but not sure if this will look enormous/dominate the space.
Does anyone have either of these televisions in a similar size room? - any feedback would be much appreciated.

We've got a room about 3.2m x 4.2m and went for 43 inch a couple of weeks ago and that looks big. Our previous lounge was much bigger and we had 32 inch in there which already seemed big enough to me. We got a good offer on the 43 inch 4k though.

We had a living room with a similar size and had a 55" TV. It was absolutely fine.

49" in a similar sized room. It seemed big when I got it but we've got used to it now and I love it, it's incredible for films etc

Bigger is better but I would be more worried about the brand. Expert advice on Tech Radar.

We're not a fan of huge tellies but have a similar sized room and our 11 year old 32" looks a bit lost in it! It's really chunky compared with modern led tvs, too.

I would go for whichever is the better tv within your budget, if the price is similar. When we do replace this one, I'd prioritise picture quality and availability of catch up TV, without additional devices or the need for miles of lan cable.

Bigger. You get used to the size so quick and if you want to enjoy some TV watching then go bigger. You can always turn it off ;-)

And budget for a sound bar, if you don't have one. The built in speakers will almost definitely be rubbish.

I’ve got a 49 inch telly. Seems enormous to start off with but now I’m used to it I can’t see how we managed with anything smaller.

You don't necessarily need a sound bar. Despite having a very small bezel and being very streamlined by TV has amazing sound.

Somewhere like Richer Sounds will give you good advice on this though.

Many thanks for all of your messages. We went with the 43 inch in the end and are very happy with it!
