Help me choose a washing machine and tumble dryer, please!

The washing machine has finally packed in, so we need to buy a new one. Dh is keen to buy a tumble dryer at the same time. No idea which one to choose! We always buy things from the lower end of the price bracket, so much choice is confusing!
The only criteria is that it must come from John Lewis (we have vouchers to spend).
Any ideas from this lot? Any brands to avoid?

washing machines

tumble dryers

I just buy cheap ones as they never last as long as I hope they will. I usually buy from a local shop as he installs for free and price matches - I tend to buy the brand he can get the best deal on (between washer, dryer, dishwasher and fridge something breaks most years)

I bought a Bosch washing machine similar to this one a few years ago, it has been great. It has a speed setting which reduces the wash time so e.g. for a 60 degree cottons wash it reduces the time from over 2 hours to 1 hour, and a 40 degree mixed load wash reduces to 45 minutes. I've found this really useful.

I also just took delivery of this tumble dryer. Have not used it yet but gets good reviews and only 199. Currently out of stock, which it was when I first wanted to order it but came back into stock really quickly.

Both those look great. Normally we would just buy from gumtree or ebay, so having so much choice is baffling. Makes sense to get it from JL though as we never hop there and won't use up the vouchers otherwise.

We bought a BEKO washing machine last year, and I'm really pleased with it. The John Lewis advisor said its same quality as Bosch just a lot cheaper.

I used to buy more expensive brands but in recent years, due to everything breaking down and needing replaced around the same time I’ve now got a new policy of comparing models and prices online on AO, Currys and maybe Argos and John Lewis, bearing in mind JL price match, then buy the cheapest model that has all the functionality I need.

No appliance care insurance or any guff like that.

My live is no different having indesit instead of Miele.

Bosch classix washing machine is excellent. Bought ours second hand and must be 6+ years old but working perfectly. The man we bought it from repairs washing machines and he said the only ones he would buy for his own house are Bosch or Siemens

My Bosch dishwasher would trip the electrics when I used certain programs. My Bosch tumble dryer put indelible black marks on our clothes. My Bosch vacuum blew up.

There’ll be no more Bosch in this house 😂

Just order this tumble dryer from John Lewis. I’ve decided not to spend too much money on any appliance as nothing seems to last. The tumble dryer is a Which Best Buy and is exceptionally quick at drying which was my only criteria after the god awful Hoover heat pump one I currently have actually took 7 hours to dry 4 bath towels yesterday (in fact a towel which I put on an airer was dry before the ones in the dryer Confused) - it was the push I needed to order a new one.

We have Samsung eco bubble and love it. We bought it 4years ago and no problem. Tumble dryer is hotpot and also no problem.

Bought a Samsung washing machine last summer which was fine on the testing they did at install but immediately had problems. (Excessive noise & vibration - and I mean excessive). Retailer arranged for Samsung engineer to come & look at it. They tried to tell me it was the fault of the utility room floor. They appear to have decided that while resting their whole body weight on top of it as it spun. Doing some googling turned up a lot of issues with Samsung engineers and/or customer service, rather than the machines themselves.

I did demonstrate the faults to the online retailer (thank you smartphone and youtube) who agreed to replace it, but there was no way I was going to buy another Samsung.

I now have Bosch - both washing machine & new tumble dryer. Very happy with them.

The washer is Bosch WAN28150GB, which is very similar to the first one on the JL page (www.johnlewis.com/bosch-wan28201gb-freestanding-washing-machine-8kg-load-a-energy-rating-1400rpm-spin-white/p3208218) and the dryer is Bosch WTN83200GB_WH, which is here on the JL site www.johnlewis.com/bosch-wtn83200gb-freestanding-condenser-tumble-dryer-8kg-load-b-energy-rating-white/p3288247

I'd recommend both of them.

I had this exact same scenario - they wouldn't accept that it was the machine. Struggled on, 2 years in the motor went (which they did repair) but got rid after that.

Add that to the previous £1000 Samsung that went from new to unrepairable in 7 month - would never have Samsung again.

I have a Bosch and I love it - I have never had issue with Bosch. Next one though will be something in cheaper range as mentioned by PP - they no longer last now. Days of spending £££ on appliances are done.
