Stinky Roman Blinds

Nakedavenger74 · 16/11/2018 04:55

We have a rented house and our spare bedroom has two large Roman blinds. These blinds stink!! The only way I can describe it is mouldy wee. It takes over the whole room.

I go through cans of Febreze and it doesn't touch the smell. I can't take them down and wash them as they are heavy blinds with wooden dowles at the bottom.

Any tips on how I deal with the minging blinds please?

Can you wipe them with a cloth soaked in something like zoflora and water? Or use a mould and mildew spray and wipe them over with that? Do you regularly have the windows open?

What about getting in touch with the landlord. They must know they stink. Not on expecting you to put up with it.

If not, take them down and put them up the loft if you have one.

Another thought. Unpick the thread and take the wooden dowels out, then wash.

Ask the landlord if they can replace the blinds, and if not take them down and put new ones up. Keep the old smelly blinds to put back up when you leave the property. I'd do this by email because if you put them in a garage or somewhere the landlord could try to claim it's your fault they are damp and deduct from your deposit for new ones. If you have the email you can contest it.

Would a hand held steam cleaner help?

ivykaty44 · 16/11/2018 06:37

Are you sure it’s the blinds smelling?

Window open door shut to air

Washing won’t get rid of the smell but taking down the bliss rod and all the sling over the washing line on a bright breezy day for 48 hours will probably do the trick

Windows are open almost constantly at least a crack. It has plenty of clean air through there.
LL made the blinds and she's very proud of them Hmm

How about saying to LL, "What would be the best way to freshen up the blinds"? Then see what the response is to that. Something needs to be done. It's your home where you need to be comfortable. You don't want to keep living with that stench.
