Lovely smelling house without limonene

BoyMeetsWorld · 14/11/2018 07:36

Hi all, sorry if this has been done to death.

I'm really OTT about my house smelling nice...we particularly like warm, spicy scents like spiced apple or cinnamon.

But I've read so much lately about cleaning products and air fresheners with scent in triggering asthma, breathing issues or even being carcinogenic that now I'm really put off.

Limonene in particular seems to be a big issue and it's in nearly everything, even Zoflora as far as I can see.

Does anybody have alternatives that will make the place clean, smell amazing and not poison my family!

Thank you

What about essential oils in a diffuser?

Cynderella · 14/11/2018 15:04

Yes, oils in a wax burner or a diffuser, either electric or tealights.

Don't know whether fragrance oils (rather than essential) contain limonene, but they're more economical as you can buy 100ml bottles.

Sorry I’m just blatantly place marking so that I can come back to see the limonene fee cleaning products recommended Smile

Limonene, I hadn't heard about that, what's wrong with it?

crispinquent · 14/11/2018 19:01

Vanilla extract in baking dish in oven for twenty minutes

PickAChew · 14/11/2018 19:06

Limonene is the substance which makes citrussy essential oils smell citrussy. It's a naturally occurring compound.

The white company Christmas oil is amazing

I'm also interested to know if anyone can recommend any natural room fragrance (or which blends of essential oils are good). I've used scented candles for years with no issues, but recently I've started getting a really bad headache within half an hour or so of lighting one.

I'm the same op. I bought cinnamon oil and put it in an oil burner and it doesn't smell good. I'm always looking for the perfect home fragrance- I can't stand plug ins or sprays Envy

Have you looked at catalytic lamps with fragrance oil? I have one from Ashleigh & burwood but haven't been able to find a fragrance I like yet. They purify the air while fragrancing, apparently.

Ooh yes that White Company winter oil does smell good. I might get some of that actually! Thanks for reminding me SweetPea Smile

Neom stuff smells gorgeous and is just essential oil blends.

SureIusedtobetaller · 14/11/2018 19:31

No, no it isn’t sorry. Just checked. Angry

Have you looked at Aromatherapy Associates candles? They have a really lovely essential oils diffuser too - I can't see that would contain limonene. How about Method for cleaning products too? They all smell amazing, especially the rhubarb anti bac spray... I'd actually quite like to wear it as a body spray! Blush
