How to remove fabric conditioner smell?

I bought something from eBay. It smells so strongly of fabric conditioner or laundry detergent I can’t stand it near me. I’ve washed it 3 times and aired it outside, but it still smells so strong!

How can I remove the smell? 😬

What are you washing it with? White vinegar as the softener might help? What helps me is leaving it out in the rain and then to dry outside before washing.

Soak in vinegar

I’ve tried washing in vinegar
Washing in non bio powder
Extra rinsing
Nothing is shifting the smell.

Have you tried bio detergent? Could try soaking in Biotex?

Following. In my enthusiasm for having whiter than white polo shirts for dd starting school I washed them in a freebie sample of detergent (possibly Bold pearls). I had to buy new shirts as even after several days on the line, 2x60° wash and a boil wash they are still unwearably maloderous.

Thanks for suggestions!
The biological detergents all seem to have stronger scents than the non bio so I don’t often use them and I’m not keen with overlapping smells Iyswim.

I think it’s destined to belong to someone else.

I got a coat on eBay once and it smelled really strongly of detergent and softener.
I washed it and then left it out on the line for a couple of days (including through a couple of heavy downpours of rain)
Brought it in and washed in just bio detergent and it ended up being salvageable.

You need to soak it in vinegar before washing it. It definately works
