Weighted blankets for adults - recommendations please

Is this the right place for this - I really wasn't sure.

I want to get one possibly for myself (I used to have hot flushes last year until I went on the HRT and have a quite light non-moldable (ie it doesn't mold to my body shape, it's a bit stiff) and would like one for me that's going to fit around my body. Then I want one for DD (16) as she (as well as me!!) has anxiety and I think it would be comforting for her.

I've had an initial look and they're just SO expensive and I wondered if anyone had found any good sources (here in t'UK)? I think it needs to be long enough to cover my feet (I'm 5' 1") but possibly not quite so long for her. Hers must be white or at a push cream, mine grey preferably.

What websites can people recommend please?

Thank you.

What sort of budget are you looking to buy within?

IWantMyHatBack · 03/11/2018 19:37

Following too.

I was thinking of making one, I know you can buy the pellets on ebay. Not sure I'll ever get round to it though, would love to buy a single duvet sized one.

woolduvet · 03/11/2018 19:47

There's a few on amazon but I've no idea what makes a good one.

DoinItForTheKids · 03/11/2018 20:09

No that's the problem isn't it, and it's an expensive mistake if you get it and think, oh, that's pants!

I know you can make them and did look at that idea but by the time you've bought two separate blankets of the right size and the plastic pellets I was like, hmm, it's not that far off the price of just getting one that's been made for you, plus I've been painting for many weekends now and I don't think I've got any 'crafting' capacity remaining! Used all my allocation I think!

I have looked on Amazon but it's a bit bewildering to be honest so a personal recommendation would be really useful.

Actually they've got a lot on eBay, I'm going to have a rummage there for a bit. Ordering now from Hong Kong I might just get them by Xmas! If not it's no bother really as it could be for DDs birthday in March....

I've been looking at them on eBay but they are very expensive. I'm going to save up for one. The one I seen works out just over £100. They're supposed to be fantastic for anxiety

DoinItForTheKids · 03/11/2018 20:19

Sommio have some lovely ones incl. a weighted duvet which really appeals. Nearer to £200 a pop though... The cocoon blankets look lovely and cuddly... I know I need great but blimey, is this the only colour they do?! Amazon is the same, it's all grey. I shall keep searching though, DD wants an all white bedroom and it's a flippin' nightmare getting white beds that don't look horrible and blankets are tricky too - there's lots of cream and off white but not a lot of actual white.

I suggest you buy one first. Not everyone gets on with them. They’re awful if you’re prone to getting hot overnight.

If you both do, you buy the size that fits your bed and put a duvet cover on it.

Watching with interest. I want to try one for my dd.

An OT told me that a good way to make one was to buy some old fashioned heavy blankets, see how many you need to work for you, and then sew them inside a duvet cover (lie them all flat, then sew around the edges so that the blankets and cover all stay together.)

DoinItForTheKids · 03/11/2018 21:00

Thanks for that 7.

Just investigating this website, looks fairly reasonable but I need to get a tape measure and see what the sizing's like: gravityblankets.co.uk/#buy people may find of interest.

Also, off Amazon, this one - massive range of weights and colours so I'll investigate a bit more with possible purchase in November:
