Cast iron frying pan

Hi ladies, please can someone tell me what or where I can buy an original heavy cast iron frying pan? You know. The ones you wipe out rather than wash. A good expensive one that will last ages! I’m in Dublin but if someone could give me a steer in any country I can figure it out!! Thanks a mill!

Sorry I'm no help but why don't you wash them?

FurryDogMother · 02/11/2018 22:07

I've got these from Amazon (UK) - they're probably available on Amazon.ie too?

Eloisedublin123 · 02/11/2018 22:25

Thanks- do they have a coating on them? I was hoping to get one with none just the old fashioned surface. Five nights it’s supposed to make it last and builds up flavor (or something like that!)

Le Creuset is the classic to buy. Heavy to lift when full but they last forever.

Netherton foundry make gorgeous spun iron pans that last a lifetime and are gorgeous.

FrogFairy · 02/11/2018 23:52

Aldi had cast iron pans in recently, when I was in there tonight they were reduced.

Eloisedublin123 · 02/11/2018 23:54

Thanks all!! X

I got a nice one in Aldi a while back. It's just as good as Le Creuset IMO.

barkingfly · 03/11/2018 06:43

best to buy used if you can--the older the better

SputnikBear · 03/11/2018 06:53

I have Le Creuset and it’s the worst pan ever. Everything sticks and burns. It’s currently lying in the cupboard while I use a cheap non stick pan from Ikea.

FurryDogMother · 03/11/2018 10:02

No coating on those ones from Amazon - I've had them around 6 months now and they have become wonderfully non-stick- and at a good price too!

I have a Lodge one which I have been pleased with. It says it is pre-seasoned but I seasoned it myself too. The more it is seasoned and used the better it becomes.

I absolutely love my cast iron frying pan. Bought it 20 years ago when it was on sale in a random shop in London. Was about £12. It's made in the USA.

I use it for all sorts. It's so well seasoned that it just needs a wipe down.

Good luck with your hunt.
